There is a marine who’s followed Luffy throughout the oceans though and nearly killed him multiple times tho?

There Is, problem Is that happened only about 1000 chapters ago and since then we have seldom seen him and his relevance basically became zero after the post TS (in which he even admitted inferiority to Fujitora even if he had the same rank). And that too Is far from Garp's portrayal, for different reasons.

Koby Is:
- Garp's own disciple (and that Is a parallel to Luffy-Ray and Zoro-Mihawk too);
- has his own epithet;
- use Garp's own moves;
- Is called by Garp the future of the Marines;
And so on.

Smoker on the other hand fits the bill mostly for what he did in Alabasta, but lacked everything else.
And today's panel was pretty straightforward about who Is more important for Oda.

A shame, becasue even in the Golden era there were at least two big Marines. Still, It Is what It Is.
Maybe Fujitora fits that bill.

It’s blatantly obvious.

Yea, Smoker is far cooler, doesn’t get an erection whenever he sees Luffy and is who I think the majority of fans (certainly me) would have wanted as future top Marine, but it is very, very clear that it is going to be Coby instead.

There's not a single character in OP that hasn't gotten fully bricked when seeing Luffy

And I’m telling you a reason why people are not buying into Koby being the next Garp. Oda’s done a horrible job at it

-Coby here till chapter 1
-Has a grand dream
-Trained by Garp personally
-Stopped MF war and has enough guts to oppose Akainu and awakened great haki
-became a renown Marine captain valued far higher than other captains (500M)
- Marine hero title
- Sword member
- plot and link with BB one of the main enemies
- his feats and power are rising a lot and his progression is astonishing (the guy began the story as maybe the weakest player in the verse)

Oda can do better but isn’t doing a bad job showcasing Coby as a special one

Garp took him and Helmeppo under his wing. It was pretty obvious they're were gonna be the new Garp & Bogard. Would've been cooler if it was smoker but it is what it is.
