Black smoke when used for awakening is only done on a specific awakening form. Not every form like the gorosei

I've always liked the Gorosei as a group but those yokai power by themselves are awful. I really hope they are from the abyssal contract. This would open up so many possibilities and each Gorosei might have his own DF on top of that ugly form

Not to mention that, if BB usurped Imu's role, 5 BB pirates might be granted an abyssal contract and gain a yokai form.

I'm pretty sure it's about your mentality aligning with your fruit. Which is why Whitebeard never awakened the Quake fruit, he's extremely powerful but he's not really violent/aggressive by nature. That's why Teach will awaken it but Whitebeard couldn't.

Oda didn't gave OG yonko awakening otherwise it would make them too OP. It already doesn't make sense how Roger or garp are equals to WB despite WB having a broken DF and comparable haki.
