Character Discussion Did he meet your expectations?

I was expecting a far more serious Vegapunk.

But when I look inside he is basically what I thought.

Vegapunk looks like a good guy, but he is ridiculously morally questionable.

From all the terrible experiments he did, the child soldier, his no care given at the destruction potential of his creations, while having "good intentions"

I am just wondering if Oda will address his crimes against humanity or it's all unde roof because he is Luffy friend now

For some reason I wanted Vegapunk to be the queit type. So boggled and involved with his own intellect that he didn't bother saying much. Instead we got devilfruit trying to make nuclear plant man. Them again a serious character can't exist in One Piece because it goes against Luffy's whole character.

Dude has the biggest brain on the planet, I expected someone super intelligent and cunning but all we got was an info repository. Vegapunk should be able to outsmart everyone on the island, not get caught as the damsel.

Oda has a problem with writing characters with agency, he lets the plot dictate the characters instead of the opposite. So what we end up often getting is characters that don't perform to their abilities, like Luffy and Zoro not using acoc against Seraphims because plot reasons.

Wow…some pretty harsh reception for Vegapunk here.
He’s more or less what I expected. A bit of a goofy design (though Shaka’s is great), the 6 satellites theme was unexpected and could have been handled better (just came off a traitor plot in Wano).

I was expecting a bit more about devil fruits specifically, but I’m kinda glad we didn’t because I would rather just have no attempt to explain them at all.

The immediate friendship with Luffy was expected. Making gunpowder to flower guns is cringy though. Man still makes weapons of mass destruction and is in shady business.

Disappointing so far. He’s morally grey as expected. He isn’t acting as smart in this situation as a man of his brain should be acting. His brain is of the size of a whole island ffs. The satellite bodies of VegaPunk aren’t great as well.

Oda could have some made some big brain thriller plot with VegaPunk.

Oda tends to play fast and loose with how we should view allies of questionable morality. Like in an SBS he said that Nami was right to treat Caesar like a piece of shit but working with Duval is ok. Granted I don't think he's ever meant for them to be "good" people
