They both fucked Kaido over but now that I'm really thinking about it King was technically worse
The Alliance have no answer for Smoothie, Snack, and other BMP executives
Assuming Smoothie is as strong as any other YC2 they're definitely fucked. Who else in the alliance was free to take on a commander?
You could make an argument for Jinbei but that would have to come after beating Who's Who (which took him a little while to do)
In that time Smoothie and Snack could easily sweep the rest of the alliance

If they all came up with meme they would have fought the beast pirates and kaido instantly. And made it a war from the off.
After what King did. Meme and kaido made an alliance and let them come up in peace.

Queen was doing just fine with his weapons, it's just surprising that someone managed to mass produce an antidote. He also put his trust in brother Apoo just to save him but he fucked up.
They are fodder regardless and as Mr. Go said, the battle is decided by the top dogs.
King helped Big Mom land in Wano early in the game, her crew would have been good extras but the 2 strongest (BM & Pero) made it to Onigashima, I don't think a couple vets & Smoothie would make a difference really.

The arc doesn’t go anywhere near the same way if King doesn’t intervene. It’s ridiculous to act like he somehow screwed the Beast Pirates when there was two weeks between him knocking them down the waterfall and Onigashima starting.
I think the result would eventually be the same

Things are quite obviously different.
If it’s a huge chunk of the Big Mom Pirates that arrive, it’s not a solo Kaido vs Big Mom effort. It’s Kaido vs Big Mom, King vs Smoothie, Queen or Jack are sprinting over to join in, so are the Flying Six.
Kaido vs Big Mom lasted for hours. You think King vs Smoothie is? King’s tearing chunks out of her. She’s dead in minutes, she’s not anywhere near as strong as Marco or Zoro. That’s repeated all over while Kaido and Big Mom are having their hours long fight. Kaido and Big Mom have reason to be somewhat friendly rivals fighting with each other. Their crews don’t. This is not the cheerful friendly Roger Pirates vs Whitebeard Pirates fight, this is two psycho crews going at each other. Even if Kaido and Big Mom agree to a stalemate after a few hours, by then there will have been serious casualties.
Then who knows what the Alliance decide to do in the middle of all this.
