Thing with Gaban that might be interesting is that he was the one who seemed to be drawing the map to laugh tale on chapter 967. If he played the part of navigator/cartographer on Roger Pirates, he might be an interesting addition to the story at the end of the Grand Line (as that theory suggests - crocus at the beggining, Ray at the middle, someone at the end), and might contribute with some nice information.

Using Scopper as a proxy to hate on Sanji is beyond cringe and lame.

Gaban playing a more prominent role in the story has potential, it just depends on what oda wants to use him for.
