There's his flagship (Saber of Xebec), the goal is pretty much the same (conquering the world), he even went to take possession of Hachinosu, which not even WB was interested... and I don't think that Teach joined WB just only due to his fame... he probably knew very well about Newgate's own dream (having a family) and that he would be able to exploit it. In any case, even if he didn't knew back then, having traveled more than 20 years with the WB Pirates certainly gave him the opportunity to learn about things that he wouldn't be able to otherwise.
