Not that it matters too much since he already has enough money for 8 generations but If he's not a billionaire he will be eventually. This series has many more years to go and it will produce sequels, games, movies, novels after it's over as well. Oda will make money off this until he dies.
I don't think odas is the kind of guy that spends money, also because realistically he has no time.
The reason why i started this thread is because i was curious of how much succesfull mangaka make, and i was shocked to see, 20/30m net worth, for series that have produced 10b+ in revenue.
I mean, for example kishimoto, thats worth 45m, thats an insane amount of money but not really for what he created, narutos franchise is 10b, so kishi cashed in only 0.45% of the franchise value, which is insane.
One piece so far has generated 22b in lifetime sales, but attention, while it may seem to us manga readers that one pieces popularity is going down, due to oricons ranking etc, actually one piece has never been as popular before, thanks to the live action etc.
The last movie generated 250m in revenue, LA season one was 144m, and oda is in charge of everything.
I think oda's net worth is around 800m, and still thats not as impressive given he has created the best series of all time!
Hail oda!

Thing is, he probably doesn't get paid royalties but rather a fixed amount for lending the license.
he was pretty young when he started one piece, probably just wanted to get serialized. signed for whatever shueisha offered.

Shueisha owns One Piece, Oda retains copyright and creative control.
It is not more probable Oda receives a fixed amount. Royalties are industry standard, and whatever split Oda started on, it is probable he renegotiated.
Shueisha probably couldn't afford the lump sum they'd have to pay him.
By the way, here's a fun fact for all of you who posted on this thread.
If you check the owner of sueisha, you find the parent company called
Hitotsubashi Group.
The groups total revenue is about 400/500m a year, its privately owned, by the oga family.
You won't find anything about them online, or anything at all.
But here's a curious thought for you guys, regardless of the fact this family is multi-multi-billionaire, and that nobody knows anything about them, ever since sueisha has been publishing manga, they have albeit behind the curtains, full control of what, how and in which direction, morally/politically etc, manga is released.
This family has basically direct influence on without exaggerating, 30/40% of the global youth. And it's someone you never heard of.
So next time someone says the illuminati control the world, not quite, but families like these do.
