Character Discussion Even I have to admit

When it comes to Kaido and Big Mom they were both huge disappointments in their own way.

Other than feats, Kaido ended up being such a lackluster character and also a lackluster villain. He was so disappointing as a villain, that even Orochi overshadowed him as a villain.

And then we have his backstory which is easily of the worst character backstories in One Piece, only four pages and it doesn't really answer that much when it comes to Kaido's character.

Imagine building up Kaido since the Punk Hazard arc and then having him be the main villain of one of the longest arcs in One Piece, and you are just waiting and waiting to see his backstory and it finally comes and it just ends up being being a rushed flashback of only four pages.

There is no excuse for Kaido having such a boring and horrible flashback.


Then there is Big Mom, imo I do think she was at least more interesting as a character than Kaido and also had a way better backstory but just like Kaido she was also very disappointing as a villain.

I had no problem with Big Mom during the WCI arc and I thought her role as a villain during the first half of that arc was pretty good, but then we get to the Wano arc and Oda just ruins her character completely.

Despite being a Yonko and even being compared to Kaido, Oda treated Big Mom like a joke throughout the Wano arc.

From falling into the ocean and getting amnesia, being used a plot device to help free Luffy from Udon, falling asleep and being chained up by Queen, having her face run over by Franky riding his motorcycle, Jinbe and Robin removing her from the main floor, and being used as a plot device again this time indirectly helping Nami and Usopp by defeating Page One and temporarily knocking out Ulti.

As for her fight against Kid and Law, not only was her portrayal not that good during the fight but she didn't show more impressive feats either.

The other main issue when it comes to her fight against Kid and Law was that a majority of the fight was off screened, because Kid and Law are not the main characters I'm assuming that's why Oda didn't really care to focus on that fight and he also probably wanted to quickly get to the final fight of Luffy vs Kaido.


Part of me still likes Kaido and Big Mom but at the same time I won't deny that Oda really fucked up when it comes to both of their characters.

Not power level wise just character wise.

Imo oda sacrificed both Kaido's awakening and FB for Shanks entrance in wano. It was really easy for oda to give Kaido good FB like simply give him orochi's story.

Kaido is kind of inexcusable. From chap. #654 to chap #1051, we've been in what should be his saga. The SMILES are Kaido's, Momonosuke wants to stop Kaido, the mink homeland was devastated by an agent of Kaido, Doflamingo was a stepping stone to Kaido.

And the best you can say for him is that he has an abundance of flashy scenes, a cool fruit and is strong. He's very interesting when talking to Yamato on the rooftop, I feel like you get a glimpse of some character and resolve. But otherwise he's just a weird drunk who wants to die, who harps on about honorable duels, betrays and kills Orochi with no problem...

Even if he was just an arc antagonist, zero build up, I'd compare him more to Moria/Hody Jones than Enel/Crocodile.

Yeah, Linlin's big issue is Oda always has to say how the fans should view her. He never takes a moment to show that Linlin is a serious threat. It's just reinforced by fodder that she is, all the while she's used as a gag character and severely underperforms in any battle she's in.

She's slightly more interesting but as an Emperor and major antagonist... She's underwhelming as well.

First of all, It's balant that you arent a Yonko fan. Second, Kaido's back story is 4 pages? Are you kidding me? Isnt Oden's backstory Kaido's too? Didn't Yamato's backstory involve Kaido? Everyone is putting up the same bitchass reasoning of his flashback. Oden's flashback had a lot of Kaido's involvement. The only time left is his time with Rocks' pirates and that'll come soon.

Orochi overshadowed him? Lel, Orochi did nothing but what Helmeppo did on the name of his father. Kaido ruled Wano, Orochi just played his games. I will say this about Kaido and Big Mom, I still think in terms of feats Kaido was very impressive and I did enjoy Kaido vs Luffy.

As for Big Mom, I still enjoyed her character during the WCI arc except for the second half when she went on her food rampage.

Also despite how she was handled during the Wano arc, I still think she was a interesting character and her backstory was really great.
