I mean some probably thought Shirahoshi was going to join during the Fishman Island arc, but it was Jinbe after all. Jinbe finally joined in Wano, so those arcs before Jinbe arriving to Wano do not contain any potential members. Some of those fans just thought Jinbe wasn’t going to join at all, so they chose the popular and cool characters, like Monet. Kuma just happened to arrive during the Egghead arc. So now the general consensus is Kuma (I remember fans saying that he’ll join). I kind of don’t agree on Kuma.

I honestly thought the Caesar for Strawhat thing was just an elaborate joke when I heard it when I first caught up to the series.

There is a way to counter this argument, it's that San Juan Wolf never sail with BBP in the same boat because he is too big and he might be just a boat himself. Unless Loki can do the same, but I doubt he actually can.
