Questions & Mysteries Examples of Oda clearly not caring about powerscaling?

jinbe and robin tossing aside big mom i remember morj talking about oda caring about plot more then power scaling
Jinbei is a top yc and a strawhat at that, this is like criticizing s hawk for sending Blackbeard flying with one air slash or saying that early wano gear 4 shouldn't send kaido flying.
It happens all the time
Post automatically merged:

In the next few chapters current water jinbei might just send some tsunami like wave on all five elders and push them all with that one ultimate attack:optimistic:
If land jinbei can send big mom flying with one attack water jinbei might just send pigman to the sea

oda cares abt powerscaling

but sometimes its simply inconsistent
He cares about plot more sometimes ( I mean doffy stopping jozu with his strings doesn’t make sense for doffy is weaker then jack and g4 luffy broke the strings(though it could be said jozu did break free of those strings by himself off screen

Or crocodile suddenly getting a power boost while in prison (it’s why if doffy returns with a power up I wouldn’t be surprised

Oda can decide that any character goes up by two subtiers in a single arc. He will never make kaido get overpowered by onigashima robin but he could decide at any time that elbaf robin awakens her DF offpanel and gets zenkai boosts big enough to be fighting katakuri in less than one month in universe time

"Anti-feats" in general. Whenever a massively weaker character holds out against a very strong character for plot reasons which is why ranking characters based on their best feats is the accurate way to scaling but slander wouldn't be fun else so...

Gags aside, I think Oda usually does try to care about powerscaling. How successful he is at that is the subject to debate.

Most of the stronger Scabbards actually do get their moment of elevation. Inu/Neko get proper solo fights with Jack/Pero and Izo fights two Cp0 members at once.

Whitebeard Pirates were still that strong even back then. Marco and Vista were part of the main combatants likely even commanders even before peaking. The rest of the main fighters were the original Commanders who are stronger than young Marco. Coupled with the WBP's having more members, "even" battles are possible to have.

Many people here act like Oda is just as obsessed with powerscaling as they are, but there are several examples of Oda egregiously ignoring powerscaling. Here’s two very glaring examples

1. The WBPs clashing evenly with the Roger Pirates. It’s pretty obvious that Oda didn’t think this through at all. He clearly thought that “Since Primebeard = Roger, the WBPs have to match the Roger Pirates in strength”, without thinking about the specifics. Maybe Oden could cancel out Rayleigh in strength, but what about the rest of the crews? Marco, Jozu, and Vista were still young boys who obviously weren’t anywhere near their primes. The Roger Pirates should logically be stronger than the current SHs, so Gaban should be > current Sanji (so YC1 level at the very least), the #4 of the crew should be > Jinbe, etc. Gaban alone should be able to wipe the floor with the WBPs, who haven’t even finished puberty. It clearly should have been a stomp, but Oda just completely ignored power scaling for the sake of the narrative

2. The Scabbards performance on Onigashima. Earlier it was made clear that all the Scabbards that didn’t travel to the future were much stronger than those who did (since they had 20 extra years to train for the raid). We saw in WCI that Carrot got multiple times stronger when she entered Sulong, so the Dukes (who should already be ~YC3 level and >> Kinemon, Kiku, and Raizo) should get just as large a boost from Sulong and probably be somewhere around YC1 level. Despite this, Oda portrayed all the Scabbards as being basically on the same level on the Rooftop, even though there should be huge gaps in strength between them.

What are some other examples of Oda blatantly ignoring powerscaling?
WBP vs Roger wasn’t a real death match. It was for fun.

The dukes were clearly stronger.

If you take into consideration that two people who are two subtiers apart can fight at the same level for hours if one is jobbing whîle the other is going all out and you take into consideration that what makes most toptiers toptiers is their awakening or adv hakis then top yc matching toptiers makes sense

Its not that he doesnt care he is just too inconsistent.

Whitebeard is based on others characters performance and statements a whole level above rest of yonkos which should not be case in reality.

Ace fought equally with Jinbei and Yamato. Now Jimbei humiliated Big Mom 2 times while Yamato stalled Kaido who was as manga said trying to kill her. Problem arises because Whitebeard was literally one shotting Ace dozens of times , further issue is that even then Whitebeard strength was said to be fading because of his health problems.

Mihawk admitted gap in power between him and Whitebeard , the same Mihawk that is superior to another yonko Shanks.

Kaido attack power is rather pathetic based on his feats and hype.

First he is said to be world strongest creature , meaning his physical strength is at very top , and given his size that makes sense. In fight he uses Kanabo as weapon further increasing his attack power. On top of that he is spamming acoc with those attack , acoc attacks which are supposed to be on another level. Yet his feats are extremely bad.

Fucking Kinemon , Law , Zoro , Yamato all of them tanked Kaido kanabo hits that had Acoc in them . Not to mention G5 Luffy casually tanking multiple direct named Acoc attacks to the head . What is the point of being physically the strongest creature , adding Acoc to your weapon and still failing to kill characters like Kinemon , Law , Zoro with your attacks.

For comparison when Big Mom used her Acoc she instantly put Zoan DF user into coma. Thats what Kaido should be doing.

Gear 5 Luffy is a top tier mythical Zoan with strong bloodline and unbreakable will so he is the fourth hardest character to hurt let alone finish off , it is warcury, kaido ,big mom and then Luffy. To actually harm Luffy with your normal attacks and not using your ultimate moves you should either be a top yc level swordsman or you should be a mid toptier.
