I don't remember exactly when WB obtained the DF, but I think his DF was one of the prizes, along with:

1st - Kaido's DF.
2nd - Nika's DF.
3rd - WB's DF.
4th - Marco's DF.
5th - Yami Yami (Rocks consumed it the same day, so he lost it due to lack of experience with the fruit).
6th - A mystery, but Kaido said he worked hard to get Yamato's DF.

The tournament was in separate blocks, and the winner of each block would receive one of the prizes.

@comrade What do you think? I believe one of the prizes might be Yamato's Zoan, which Kaido worked hard to obtain.

There were probably only five, baby Shanks was in a chest that Roger opened on God Valley so it's likely it was one of those chests instead of a devil fruit.

That's a good point, he may as well have won Yamato's fruit. And outside of the Nika's fruit unique danger of being able to unite the world, in terms of raw power, Kaido's reigns supreme.

- Making Kaido into a "thing" and history's strongest creature
- Kaido having a lifelong debt debt towards Big Mom because of the fruit, showing its value
- Guernica thanking god that cloning this fruit was a failure, for whoever received it, would turn into another monster. Just for reference; an 8 year old boy just testing his newly acquired power and having no other battle experience or Haki, pushed an admiral to his limits.

Celestial Dragons conducting a Tournament with Prizes reminds me of Doflamingo's Colosseum.

Everyone went there to get treasures or dfs

Even Roger got treasures after the battle, so yeah their goal was probably to enter and steal treasures and save some people
But they ended up encountering Rocks pirates there too

Rocks came there for dfs and treasures, also to get some for manpower
