Remember I'm just basing this off of your justification as to why Luffy won't fight Akainu, while also saying that Luffy will fight Imu instead.

this idea that “revenge is bad” only works if Luffy’s life were to be driven by it, which isn’t the case. Oda will always play up Luffy’s grudges because it’s part of his character, Luffy doesn’t forget those who wrong him or his friends

The only way I see Akainu vs Luffy is if Akainu takes over WG but don't see it happening. I don't think Marines and WG will have separate arcs.
Luffy beating Akainu wouldn't change anything but beating Im or the King of the World does. Akainu is just a lackey that is replaceable. Luffy is the one that would change the OP world at endgame not Sabo. So Sabo won't be the one to demolish WG.

Akainu permanently changed the Main Character's design in a prominent way. The only one to ever do so.

Luffy was never scarred in battle nor when he was conscious . The dude was already unconscious ,depressed over Ace death as he was being carried by Jinbei.
It's a different case than Kaido's , Shanks and most people who suffered scars in battles while being conscious.
Sabo is here to beat Akainu
He's got powerful haki & better physical stats for this reason.
