Since Film Red is out long enough, let's discuss something.

Roger found Shanks in a treasure chest as a baby. Since Shanks found Uta in the same way and is considered her father, does that mean Roger is Shanks' adoptive father as well? Or is it Rayleigh due to their similar style?

Discuss.

@Shimotsuki Ghostly @AL sama @Gol D. Roger @silverfire @wordy @EtenBoby @Mr. Reloaded @Rottkins @Playa4321 @AdmiralKoniroryu @Pot Goblin .
I've always felt it was Roger. We saw Shanks tearing up over Rogers disbanding of the crew and his last words to them, although we still have nobidea what he said to him yet.

Roger gave Shanks both his hats, the Strawhat ofc but also his captains hat too IIRC, when he encountered the WB pirates in the Oden flashback?

Both he and Rayleigh have definitely influenced Shanks but I feel Roger would have seen Shanks as his hononary son, before he had Ace especially ofc.

The blatant parallel with how Roger and Ray finding Shanks and then Shanks finding Uta adds to this imo. I feel aside from Luffy, Shanks inherited Rogers eill especially and Roger must have wanted Shanks to be his protege/successor/legacy too.

I really can't wait till Oda must show us more of Shanks and Buggy with Roger and Rayleigh and thus their fatherly relationships with them.
Both of them are probs orphans too by the looks of it, which seems confirmed for Shsnks now at least especially too?

Given how close Uta became to Luffy and thus also acts as a further and especially personal connection for Luffy and Shanks to each other, this has to unite together/signify something too.

I'd say Shanks had 2 fathers even, with Roger and Ray, I'm biased towards Roger but I wouldn't mind if Ray was more of the father figure to him too.

During the episodes of the Oden FB too, we got new scenes of Shanks witnessing Rogers illness and its toll on him, only he witnessed it and saw/knew how much it was really affecting him, despite his proud, strong, jovial, masculine leader front he was putting on for the crew?

I think this is also why Oda had that storyline of Shanks meeting Ace and thus Rogers hononary and now much older son, meets Rogers much younger and actual son abd thus his hononary younger brother too.

I'm just speculating though ofc.

I kinda feel it was Roger as well. This would explain why Shanks was so protective of Ace. First when he asked WB to stop him and then when he showed up on MF. Could be he just considered Ace his brother as well. He couldn't have known Luffy was going to Marineford, so doubt this was the reason He showed up.

Actually, this could be the reason he visited Fusha as well? Because Ace was in the area? Always found it weird why Shanks would stay in the home village of his captain's former arch enemy Garp.

Yeah that would make sense too! Damn...

Makes him having to find Ace dead and personally take his body and bury him all the more tragic now too.

Also him going against Sakazuki could have been an expression of anger from him. But he couldn't have just declared war on them because of his position. All makes sense now.
Oooh that makes sense too! Shanks did look furious in that moment and understandably so too. Even more so now with this potential added context too!

I think him challenging the Marines to a fight, could also have been a potential excuse to fight them and thus inflcit his wrath, especially on Akainu who he would expect to fight him the most and thus a perfect chance for Shanks to get revenge on him too.

Why do I only now notice he's wearing two hats here? Lol.
And then Chopper went on to do the same thing post TS haha. An interesting coincidence there!

Also him going against Aramaki. Could have been some sort of passive aggressiveness towards the Navy as well and him fearing they might take Luffy away from him on top of Ace since Luffy was still wounded from the Kaido fight.

Thos are some excellent points too! I've seen some others suggest that Shanks was actually in East Blue to seek out Ace and potentially give him the Nika fruit instead, maybe that was part of Rogers last wishes/words and thus his most important and secretive request to Shanks?

Also @AdmiralKoniroryu on the same wavelength here too ofc!:

I think roger is more the adoptive father due to passing down the strawhat to him
also even in this panel, shanks is wearing rogers hat
then even shanks having a relationship with rogers son and possibly even wanting to give him the nika fruit

Ooooh yeah that does add up! His wording made me feel like it was inspired by the death of Ace too, how his (literal) flame was extinguished far too soon and he never really got to live his life to the full and even become Pirate King potentially.
As far as we know, the last remnant of Roger's bloodline has been wiped out and his only child too, with his and especially Rouge's sacrifices now going somewhat in vain too.

If only he knew that Kaido "killed" Luffy too, not long before! The same Kaido that Shanks drove off from going to Marineford somehow, without getting a scratch on himself somehow and thus driving away a fellow Yonko and unstoppable, destructive monster like Kaido, so "easily"?! We still dont know how he did that too!

That makes a lot of sense anyway, Shanks finally had a prime chance to vent some of his wrath towards the Marines and Green Bull who sucks up to the killer of Ace, as well as glorifies the WG and Celestial Dragons makes the perfect target fo Shanks to flex his pent up hatred towards.

Given Shanks seems to be from a Celestial Dragon family himself or some kind of important family in the OP world at least (going by what the Gorosei said in Film Red), this makes his previous actions and characterisation all the more interesting and thus his actions vs Green Bull too and also why Sengoku and the Gorosei were so diplomatic with him too.

Oda also made Shanks look so INTENSE and menacing here too! His speech and thus the words, the lightning storm-like CoC blast that POWERED across Wano itself and we've not seen anyone else do like this yet, his expression, that strident pose etc, Oda really wanted us to see what a truly angry Shanks was like finally! :

We've been told via some Vivre Cards/Databooks/SBS/OP Magazines or w/e in the past, that Shanks has a truly fearsome, unstoppable wrath. That his anger is pretty much unstoppable, ferocious like a beast or something? Might be an editor's comment too? Oda definitely set up a deliberate parallel there with a guy called "Green Bull" who is brash as a bull as expected, went into Wano recklessly against orders and acted on his on whim and such, like a stubborn, cocky bull indeed.

Yeah, this. Shanks was really angry for the first time. And his intention to protect Luffy was clear as well. I just hope we'll get a proper flashback for him.
