Katakuri was the biggest fight for Luffy after the timeskip, and is arguably the most popular character introduced after the timeskip.
He also had a lot of highlights in terms of personality and backstory. What role will he play in the future?
This all depends on what happens at Wano, but me personally don't see neither Kaidou nor BM surviving all of this. The whole point of the arc is destroying the ballance of the world (it already started with the Shichibukai), and both Kaido and BM parallel the Rocks.
We know who the "commanders" of the Rocks were : WB, Shiki, Linlin, Kaido, John & Silver Axe. They all became legendary pirates (even John and Silver Axe, altougth maybe not as much). Now Im not saying King, Jack, Queen etc will all become great pirates, but i think there's a case to be made for Katakuri, and even the surviving part of the beast pirates.
Katakuri is a leader as we know, and I don't doubt the rest of the Big Mom Pirates will follow him (Perospero will die for sure in Wano), so he can become one of the next legendary pirates with Kidd etc. I don't think he'll become a Yonko lvl pirate, but i do think its plausible. He, even if most die, will have lots of power in the crew.
I don't know why but i dont feel he's dying in Wano, but i do see the probability of him dying at the ends of BB even if its not very likely at the moment.
