Also, his performance at marineford was half assed as fuck. Do you want to kill ace, luffy, whitebeard and defeat the WBP alliance? Do you want to help your boys to escape this mess? Dude one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Garp's words doesn't get hypocrite because he joined a pirate crew. He is living the now as he said and he didn't lost his way even joining temporarily with a pirate crew. And guess what? This was probably basically what made WG make the Shichibukai System.

As Sengoku said he never asked for Garp to take a position. Garp was the man with most conflict on Marineford because he was on the marine side and had to watch his son die. Yes Ace was his son. He raised as son. Not like Luffy. So he did more than he should.

But yes his action towards Akainu makes no fucking sense.
