Freedom of speech literally protects homophobia. It's why there's no laws about misgendering or calling gays slurs. Hate crimes are a different story.

However freedom of speech is not freedom of consequences. You can still get terminated from a job as an employer sees fit or banned from a forum if you say racist or homophobic shit because again while yes, you are technically allowed to say whatever you want, it doesn't mean you are free from consequence.

A biological man can use female locker rooms, being sexually interested in women, just cause he identifies as female. The female athletes come together to say they are not comfortable with that, but they are shut down as transphobic. That reminds me of the story of the two highschool track and field members who had to deal with 2 recently transitioned classmates who of course absolutely dominated the scene. They tried to complain about it and everyone including faculty dismissed their concerns called them transphobic despite the trans athletes clearly being way better than the other girls.

What's worse is the response from their classmates who basically just told them to "try harder", which is literally impossible
