I would like to add that I believe people can redeem themselves, but redeeming themselves when you are in a state of perfect hardship free less life, where you don't have to work nor to face the "real world", is not a redemption in my eyes.
A brute that goes home drunk and hit his wife while struggling with his work and decides to stop drinking is for me a person that redeems himself.

I did tell him to try and take some courses or get a part time job in order to occupy his mind and be somewhat productive. All he did was complain instead of finding solutions to his situation.
