It happens. I saw my father transitioning from casual Muslim to extremely religious to basically atheism in the span of my 30 years of age. He got scorned so many times in life that he is "done" with religion.
I am absolutely a failure as a Muslim too. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even be into OP.

God/Gods/Religion is a difficult topic.
They are no harm as long as people keep their sanity and understand the limits of such things. Religious extremists are the worst imho.
The number of religions is a big problem too imo. Although people can believe what they want, it appears to be weird that there are so many parties who believe that they themselves know the history of such an entity and that it gave birth to their actual religion.

This wouldn't be a problem if people didn't fight for their Religion trying to portray it as the ABSOLUTE true one.
I myself am dunno the term but it's not atheist. Agnostic? Although the idea of people praying to keep their sanity and not become troglodytes sounded plausible but as I said. Extremist ruin things.

Religion and Politics are two sides of the same coin for the most part. Uber left and Uber right can be cathegorized as a belief of some sort not Religious tho but the idea is similar.

But this is a topic that is too controversial for this thread. And I want this thread to stay alive.
Plus I know that I have FAR TOO MUCH bias toward religion. I'm in the impossibility to talk about religion with objectivity and respect right now. So, if you don't mind, I prefer not to talk about it by respect for those who believe.
