If you are talking about caste system prevalent 2500 years ago then lower castes were discriminated on multiple grounds
But Bhagwat Geeta doesn't prohibit Inter -caste marriage
Constitution and Hindu marriage act allows it
Judicial judgements allow it.
However, people (mainly in rural areas) still prefer to have marriage in same caste but nothing in law or practice prohibits them marrying outside of their caste or religion

It's in practice in different forms especially in rural and backward areas. So I won't deny discrimination doesn't happen or caste system aren't not inforced on couples
But as economic growth and development is trickling down economic interdependence on each other is increasing which cuts the caste and religion based fault lines
More people are opening up for inter -caste marriages.. gradually

Law allows both inter and intra caste marriages.
Some people prefer intra more than inter due to traditions or due to cultural similarity within the caste.
But if anyone wants to go for inter - caste marriages then nothing prohibits them.
But with modernization more people are opening themselves for inter-caste

Ignoring is an extreme word..
Caste is like an identity. Every caste has their own traditions and cultural aspects.
What people are doing is they are prioritising economic ties, employment, love, mutual respect over caste boundaries but that doesn't mean they don't follow their own traditions.
