Iran is letting some selected ships pass through and so now apparently Trump is threatening Iran that he will block those ships
Let see if Trump can block Chinese ships
And how will Xi reacts
I don't think America wants to block Hormuz.
Military wise Iran has nothing to deter US and definitely not after 11000 strikes.
The intent behind Iran targetting commerical infrastructure of Gulf and blocking Hormuz was to raise the economy costs of war to build pressure on US to back off. Iran has seriously nothing else in hand to deter US.
The supply shock of these fuels shortages would negativity impact all countries and a global slowdown would affect US more.
People don't realize how much interlinked economies are all over the world.
Iran rhetoric was centered around threats which would raise economic and civilian costs if US escalated further.
US rhetoric was initially centered on pressing Iran hard and when gradually Hormuz shock started having negative impact across the world and then we saw shift in US rhetoric - less escalations and talking more about negotiations (not counting Trump snapping sometime)
Another thing is even now it will take months to restore normalcy in fuel supplies. Prolonged blockade and attacks on commerical infrastructure would be so disastrous for global economy that US had no option but to consider negotiations.
Tbh, both America and Iran have shown intentions to get the negotiations. The failure of not reaching one is more to do with lack of trust.
Iran demands acceptance of control over Hormuz and nuclear enrichment stockpiles .
US don't wanna accept these demands - they gave guarantees and some proposals but Iran don't believe in them - lack of trust.
And, people need to be less biased. Blaming US for not accepting these demands to reach the deal is idiotic.
US was wrong in starting the war but US is right in not accepting these demands.
A country that blocked an international transit passage affecting even those countries who weren't involved in the war can't simply be allowed to have Nuclear enrichment.
Countries like US, China, India, France don't resort to nuclear threats because their economies can sustain war for months.
A weaker economy can't sustain war for more than few weeks and thus they resort to nuclear threats quickly - we have seen it with North Korea and Pakistan. Iran already showed this with Hormuz.
A nuclear enrichment should be clear no.
