Go for it. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl was the game by the way, Cynthia role. If hit by an Omega, Milotic will tank it instead. You can assume the same principle applies here. To be fair, T Pein wasn't claiming it, he was just encouraging joining and people made that connection themselves. Ekko was pushing for it as well.

At one point of time Pein also gave specific information like if any non town role joins it then they will have negative effects. This actually made me more inclined to believe and ultimately quote the post to join it. Because of these specifics. I also thought Pein was towncore himself.
