Zoro oneshotted someone much tougher than Kaido, Zoro's CoC coating > Joyboy's borrowed haki but we're not going to turn this thread into a Zoro vs Luffy, we all know who did all the damage vs Kaido before either got AdCoC and who even now struggles against fodder wind blades. 
Zoro needs AdCoC, just to beat people who don't have AdCoC.....
Yeah, not everyone should be in top tiers, for balances and narrative purposes.
However it's worth nothing that SH only have a dozen members, where every other crew has several dozens or even hundreds of members. Which means every SH must be a high quality character. One of the indications of that is high combat strength.
No need for all Haki, just show SH has destructive science weapons or something.

That is intentionally holding the enemy back so the SH's can get a cheap win.
Those responsibilities don't matter if they're actually involved in a fight. Let's not also forget that each strawhat vowed to get stronger for luffys sake.
If someone criticized Nami and her piss poor performance in Wano then what would you say? Her value is being a navigator? That has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
