Powers & Abilities Haki the great equalizer?

I think people are really not appreciating Kaido's comment about Haki transcending all. And by haki all three are required. For any normal or I should say average human (since its OP and the most normal seem weird) in OP it is the only thing that helps them compete against the best at the very top with people who have innate or acquired hax abilities. For example there are people like Shanks, Garp and WB (he is not a mixed race but a human freak of nature) who can get cut/stabbed etc. with normal attacks for example Squard stab, sea monster bite, Morgan's axe etc. And then we have people like Kaido and BM, Giants, Fish-men, Lunarians and all the devil fruit users who have some sort of immunity or ability to not be effected by these simple attacks at all.

In the end the normal guys have to become physically strong enough and hone their haki to the max to compete with these freaks of nature and when they do they can become even stronger. Its like the freaks have better base/starting stats but haki sort of neutralizes them and equals the field in a battle. I mean Kaido/BM would not get cut like Garp was or their arm ripped off like Shanks from the attacks that those two faced even in their sleep.

These are the power sources for fighter in OP imho:
1. Raw Physical Strength
2. Devil Fruits
3. Haki
4. Technology

And haki in some way can counter or overpower all the other three power systems. It is how normal humans can compete against other races with innate physical strength like Giants and Fishmen, or Queen's comment about even masters of haki not being able to survive his python type crushing technique. It is how devil fruits are countered and has the ability to counter the most hax abilities with prime examples of Law being unable to move Kaido and BM and Vergo's comment about Law require stronger haki than Vergo to cut him even in the room. By technology I mean lasers, pacifistas, SSG and genetic modification.

For the normal human top tiers like Shanks, Mihawk, Roger, Garp, Rayleigh they have no choice but to become the best in all three types of haki (considering the unconfirmed ones also have it) as they have no innate hax to defend against or deal damage. And for people with no other base buff (raw physical strength, df or tech) I think ACoC is a must to compete with the top tiers. This is the reason why I believe Garp and Mihawk must have ACoC, we saw the huge power buff that ACoC gave to Luffy and Zoro. It seems impossible to compete with other top tiers with just ACoA and ACoO. Having other abilities give more versatility but in a clash the one with stronger haki will prevail. I hope Oda shows some hype Logia awakenings.

We first saw Zoan awakening, then paramecia awakening, then ACoO, then ACoA and ACoC (possible expansion later), then mythical zoan awakening and now we have to see Logia awakening (not entirely sure since Oda skipped Kaido and BM showing any awakening).

I think with M3 having very high base raw strength Oda is focusing on having them excel in the different power source types and that is how is going to differentiate them. Luffy already has gotten all three advanced haki forms and has awakened has df (which I think he will further improve on further). Zoro has only haki (no df, special race or tech mod) so his only road to become stronger is through haki, he has ACoC and ACoA (not sure about internal destruction but he most probably will since Ray had it) and he has to get ACoO and learn to blacken his blade (most probably haki feat). Sanji has not shown any advanced haki but his gene mod or whatever his passion power source is has been highlighted lately, I think his future powerups will be ACoA (he needs strong haki to withstand his own high temp flames and ID with IJ could be pretty serious damage) and ACoO (his CoO is already top notch but I don't think he is a confirmed FS user) and some sort of genetic mod that allows him to become even stronger. I think Sanji and Law are the guys who will compete with the top tiers without having ACoC but based on their hax abilities (DF and Genetic Mod) while having decent haki.

What do you think about the power systems in OP, what is your opinion on haki levelling the field and what powerups the M3 will get?

The only reason Kaido believes haki to surpass all is because he believes that’s what allowed Roger to conquer the seas so he chose to train his haki more than anything else.

We’ll probably get a similar line spoken by Blackbeard next arc about devil fruits being the key to taking over the world or something. Because he watched Whitebeards rise to power and him being the worlds strongest man with his DF and that’s what Blackbeard chose to focus on.

Haki is just an inconsistent power structure. It’s no better or worse then any of the other power structures in OP. Hell, Franky Robin and Brook are all set up to be commander tier fighters without haki should showcase that.

Probably though I have to disagree with the last part, I think Jinbe and Franky can be commander tier but not Robin and Brook.

Yet the guy made an army of zoans. He took a fat L too.
It is an easier way to upgrade his fodder army then trying to make them haki monsters.

But Kaido lost. So his statement is shit.
I think people are just ignoring the part where Luffy is coating himself in ACoA an ACoC. Just look at the black lightning in Chap 1049 in multiple panels, it is literally bigger than Onigashima many times over. Look at all the clashes. Kaido chose to take it head on because it was a battle of wills, the reason why Kaido asks him what kind of a world will he create.

Oda uses haki as get out of jail free. If he needs a character to get alot stronger then just give them haki. If someone has a hax ability like logia intangibility or law's one hits then just give them haki. Haki is a good power concept but oda uses it terrible as we don't even have a accurate way to gauge how strong somebody's haki is and arc by arc haki can be a absolute game changer or meh. Just in the wano Luffy v kaido first it was CoA being hyped, then it was CoC being hyped, but it'd ended with df awakening being the strongest. Haki

Haki is a must to conquer but not the greatest equalizer one can have. Very hax DF, science, natural capabilities can overcome limits of ACoC under some circumstances. Look at Aramaki, he only got little bruise from blank-point ACoC attack of Yamato.

It's inconsistent, but Oda has at least shown us that all the top tiers have a significant degree of Haki mastery. The power scale probably goes something like Haki mastery >= Strong Haki + DF > Only DF

And we kind of know that Kaido's statement will prove to be correct because Luffy will most likely need to find a way to beat Blackbeard without relying on his DF abilities, and Haki's the only real option. This would also prove Blackbeard's obsession with strong DF to be misguided, as a strong will and training are more important than simply eating power-ups.

Still, like you mentioned, Oda hasn't been as consistent with these concepts as one would like, but it seems like this is the direction he's taking things.

Luffy still needs to improve his haki game overall.Yassop and Katakuri have better future sight,Shanks has better COC,Ray has better COA.Luffy is a rough diamond right now.He needs to lapidate his haki and awakening.

Zoro and Sanji will definetily unlock ACoo and ACoa.Zoro will need future sight vs Shyriu and Sanji will need penetration coa if Burgess eats the diamond fruit.

Or maybe he was inspired by Xebec having a one of the strongest fruits.I wonder how BB ate two fruits, back in Skypia Zoro and Luffy said to Nami:"its them, not him" and Marco said he has an abnormal body.In the Oden fb it was revealed he doesn't sleep.Maybe eating mutiple devil fruits is something only BB can do.

Luffy has better haki than all of them. The rest of what you said is headcannon. In fact, Luffy haki is so monstorus that his next opponent is Blackbeard.

Luffy already has better haki than Kaido, Rayleigh, and soon Shanks.

EVen Shanks is going to lose against Blackbeard meaning Luffy's haki is already beyond his.

Chapters 1015, 1026 , 1044 and 1048 confirm Luffy's haki being better than all of them.
