Doesn't make it any less of a weapon, daddy's suit was a much needed power up to protect sanji's fragile bones since they break against opponents who mainly use weapons, not even kicks.

Oda favors Luffy. Everyone else gets their respective panel time in which they specialize in. Making Zoro do badass things, and shine when it it comes to putting him in fights isn't "favoritism", it's Zoro's purpose in the crew. Like imagine if Sanji made terrible food, or Nami always got them lost, or Choppers medicine made people worse. Oda isn't going to make any of them look bad in their positions in the crew. Zoro is a fighter, so Oda makes him look good in that regard. He's no more favorited than any of the other Straw Hats.

He isn't necessarily an idiot. It depends on what's taken into account exactly.

For instance he did some intelligent stuffs, such as asking Mihawk to train him, or helping Luffy in Thriller Bark, saving Toko and so on.
