I think if Roger wasn't a great character One piece wouldn't be this popular since he is what Luffy aims for. Also considering Roger was not a DF user like Luffy and Magical swordsman like Zoro he was a peak character of effort.

We've seen Aramaki fight several times now, and not once has he brought out his supposed Black Blade.

His Black Blade is still unconfirmed at this point.

-Got down on his knees for WB to make him the PK
-WB refrained from using his DF and still matched him so even their equality comes into question.

As a character, he's ok. But my initial idea of Roger was that he was actually making people bow down to him instead of running around the seas ducking confrontation, teaming up with the Navy, begging his rivals for an advantage.

Well no, initially Oden didn't even exist for me to expect anything Oden related. Oden just recently became a part of the equation.
