That's the point, you don't necessarily have to do that much in order to tag along. But I appreciate she gave her best to fight Kaido even though failing miserably. That was at least great in order to prevent him from rampaging even if just for a while.

However I don't think the subject here is really about her joining the crew, rather it is about a recruitment.

Problem : Yamato had such an exposition in Onigashima, that it is VERY unlikely that she could have another in another arc. Usually Oda prioritize one or two strawhat per arcs. So... Yamato's time is now or never.

Did she do enough to join the crew? Yes

Did she do enough as a future strawhat to be recruited officially? No

She has done a lot. And enough to join. But to be recruited with the strawhats, there is a bunch of parameters that needs to be scratch. Yamato do not. So unless something happens between here and the end, she won't be recruited.
