Current Events How Ambitious is Garling? Will he aim for the Empty throne?

Does Garling want to be the King of the World?

It's possible, it all depends on the the "contract" that the Gorosei have with Imu. If it's just about immortality, then Garling could betray Imu at any time... if Imu can end their life at will, then he wouldn't be able to. At least he's shown to be in the One Piece race (chapter #1121), although there is at least one example of aligned characters there (Dragon and Sabo).

He is ambitious in that, he became the leader of the God Knights, and made a name for himself at God Valley. But I doubt he had in mind that eventually a Gorosei was going to be replaced, and that he'd take their place, rather Imu must have chose him as a replacement, and he simply accepted, and now that he is in this role he will make the best of it that he can.

I think that it’s clear that Imu removed Saturn’s immortality and that’s how he died, not just an ability to vaporise someone on the spot.

So Garling is not at threat from that for another good couple of years.

I still don’t think Imu would have anything to fear from inviting him to be a Gorosei though. Imu presumably also is the one who grants the regen. He has the other four Gorosei’s balls in a vice. Imu is almost certain to be able to regen himself.

If Garling tries anything, Imu can just remove his regen. Then it’s Garling vs five immortals, and there is only one winner there.

As long as Imu is not stupid enough to reveal to anyone any weakness he has, inviting Garling to be a Gorosei should not be a threat to his life.

Now, Garling could well have his own ambitions and work towards them, but I don’t think that makes Imu stupid to invite him in.

IMU just removed immortality.

Saturn was already old 200 Year's ago so he just died of age

Garlic is fresh 70's
I don't know about fresh 70's. He does look fresh but without steroids I see him dying quick

Big Mom, 68 - Her family and Kaido indicated she was on the decline
WB, 72 - Sick and on the decline
Garp, Sengoku, Rayleigh, 76-78 - All on the decline

There hasn't been one character past 60 in his prime. Closest being Kaido 59 and Kizaru 58 but perhaps even they were stronger 5 years ago.

Garling is built different
The main question might be how active he has stayed.

Big Mom - inactive for years or decades (at least no high end)
WB - Aggressive Cancer
Garp - inactive for years or decades (at least no high end)
Rayleigh - inactive for decades
Sengoku - inactive for decades

As with real old people the ones that stay active often manage to keep quite sharp despite their advanced age. Garling looks the part, he might have stayed active to some degree doing God knows what. Surely not enjoying retirement like Rayleigh

Garp and Big Mom were somewhat active and were as a result still in decent shape. They didnt decline like Sengoku or Rayleigh. They trained a bit or fought young up starts.

But neither Garp or Big Mom fought the strongest up comers (Shanks and Mihawk obviously). No shichibukais. Big Mom hadnt fought anyone on Kidd or Laws level since decades ago, nothing says Garp fought anyone of real note post Shiki.

Well nothing really happened in the last 20 years

Even Kaido's last battle was against Oden,
Decade's ago

Garling last battle might be against Whitebeard after Oden saga and giving him that scars

Not a bad idea, Oda highlighted him in that panel in chapter 1121 so he is really important for the final part of the story but with this chapter I think Oda already told us his role ( a sort of Imu right hand man) but who knows, I don't dislike this idea of him aiming for the Empty throne
