Not to mention Katakuri being a Conqueror, even if not an Advanced one, and still being a pawn of Big Mom.
Zoro is portrayed as someone close to Luffy and on his level, comparable in every way to him, just a bit below. Luffy and Zoro's relationship is more like brothers than a captain and his subordinate.
Hence at the start it's said that "If you try to stop my dream, I will kill you" and later they fight as equals clamining that "Let's see who is the strongest among us, the brawler or the swordsman".
Both are WG Supernovas, Conqueror Haki users and have fighting oriented dreams; they share these things and they are the only ones in the Strawhats who have this.
The databook and the manga perfectly summed: Zoro has strength very comparable to Luffy's one, but he still follows him; but, differently from the other Strawhats, he doesn't do that because of necessity, but because of spontaneous trust.
You don't like Zoro? The author does, and so do 90% of the fandom. So I suggest you to deal with it.
