Either Shanks is weaker and Teach stronger than we thought (I mean considering he might have connections with Xebec (maybe his son?) it won't be surprising if he's strong as hell), or at that time Shanks was weaker and Teach started growing really fast but again Shanks said it he was not careless when he fought Teach, Teach really managed to give Shanks a scar in a legit fight (and apparently he doesn't have any scar left by Shanks) so yea..... maybe Teach is really a goddamn beast

Because Blackbeard has split personalities, and one personality is much stronger than the other. It's how to explain how Blackbeard "Never sleeps", because when one is asleep, the other is awake.

How many times do we see Blackbeard getting hit by attacks, then dropping to the ground and writhing in pain, that most other characters would shrug off? It happens quite often in the manga. But then during Marineford, Blackbeard takes a quake blast to the face from Whitebeard, and then afterwards takes a shockwave from Sengoku and he tanks both of them with minimal problems. How else do you explain how something like a jet Bazooka can blast him into a wall, dropping him, yet a Shockwave from Sengoku just drops him to one knee. I think when his main personality hits its pain threshold, and starts to feel extremely threatened, that's when the second personality shows up. And I know, the Blackbeard having multiple personalities theory has been around for years, as I made one 5-6 years ago myself. To me it just seems to make the most sense at the moment.

It would be pretty crazy if somehow Xebec managed to put his soul/spirit into a young Blackbeard. I mean, there is Devil Fruits that can bring people back from the dead, so it's not outside the realm of possibilities that there is one that can transfer ones soul into another. Perhaps a variation of the Soul Soul fruit, in which it's one that works on humans. It would explain a lot as well as Blackbeard's goals and ideals seem to be similar to Xebec, and not to mention Blackbeard seems to know a lot more about the World than most.

My other speculation is that perhaps Xebec might have been the original user of the Mane Mane no Mi, and through awakening managed to create a clone of himself, one in which he would use as a vessel to transfer his own soul into once the time was right.

That would open up so much potential as well with Bon Clay. Perhaps he can clone himself to be a stand in as a prisoner for Impel Down, and be able to slip out through the cracks while posing as someone else.
