If you were to tell me back in the dressrosa arc that Luffy would have to face an alliance of two yonkos at once, I would say that that is insane and there is no way that Luffy could win. This is what the big mom/kaido alliance is on paper. The greatest threat that the world has seen. This is exactly what reverie hyped the alliance to be, with Akainu's reluctance to let kizaru stop them, to the hype about this being the return of the rocks pirates, the alliance between Big Mom and Kaido should have been an insurmountable obstacle to overcome.
Yet in actuality, Oda's treatment of Big Mom has made it to where none of the tension that could have been created by such an alliance actually exists. This is due to how heavily the hand of plot hovers around big mom's head. Plot convenience is so intertwined with big mom that despite Big Mom being one of the main antagonists of this arc(on paper), nobody took her seriously. This isn't even just the fans, just look at how Luffy, Kid, and Law reacted to the news that kaido and big mom had allied. Or look at how they acted on the roof top with everyone just ignoring big mom and going straight for kaido.
Nobody cares about her.
She's not even a weak character, its just that Oda plot restricts her more than any character. Like Big Mom is an ACoC user, yet we didn't see her use ACoC the entirety of WCI. She especially didn't use it when she boarded the sunny and had the ability to 1 shot every character on that ship. Or in wano where king knocks her off her ship. This scene makes no sense. Where is prometheus? Can he not save big mom like he did back in WCI? He is there in onigashima so we can assume big mom didn't just forget about him.
Furthermore, why couldn't big mom save herself by turning a fish into a homie? We know she can create animal homies as she did it to a crocodile in WCI. Couldn't she have done that? Why is it this easy to for characters much weaker than big mom to deal with her?
Even in the onigashima war. Oda doesn't give a shit about her. He doesn't even bother to draw her actually fighting Kid and Law. We just get tiny panels of Kid and Law standing in front of big mom while she laughs. Could she turn the tide of the war? Probably, but instead she takes out 2 of the tobi roppo and subsequently fucks off.
It seems to me that big mom is a plot device first and an antagonist second. I had expectations that since she was given a fight, that maybe Oda might treat her better. But I really feel like Oda wants Kid and Law to beat her so he can write her out of the story.
