One Piece is not as much about fights compared to something like Dragon Ball, but it's a battle shonen nonetheless.

You don't see matters being handled diplomatically or non-violently whatsoever in One Piece. the Straw Hat crew's solution to most of the issues they face is to beat the shit out of the enemy.

As they encounter stronger and stronger enemies to reach their goals and protect things important to them, they have to focus on getting stronger as well.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike the power-scaling toxicity as well, despite the fact that I participate in power-level discussions. But it's expected that these things will be leading the discussions, especially when we're in the fighting portion of the arc.

Also, Oda's portrayal of certain characters and their displays of strength are inconsistent at best, and that applies strongly to both the monster trio and the yonkou/admirals

4) Rock Pirates were known to fight each other and wanted to dominate through their power
Titles like

6) World's strongest swordsman
7) World's strongest creature

9) Different haki types
10) The Ancient Kingdom was known for its innovations and created ancient weapons. For what, decoration?
11) Luffy says I will beat all the Yonkous
12) Ace - I will beat Whitebeard
13) Blackbeard, presumably, the final villain, has 2 DFs, both are destructive in nature.
14) Pirate crews and the YCs are battle-centric characters (I have not seen anyone interested in adventure or politics). You can argue that being a pirate and fighting the strong is their adventure but still, it involves fights.


Now, please prove me wrong with your points about how OP is 90% about lores and not about fights.

It is the author himself who has portrayed the manga like this, his narratives and dialogues always point in this direction.

The point is, Oda fails at everything, whether it is about fights, lores or plot (more like a milking strategy).

There is a reason people say they loved pre-time skip One Piece and they hate current One Piece.

Oda is like a man who has 5 degrees, i.e., Law, Medical, Arts, Photography, Videography.
But, he still can't find a job, because he has just scored below average in all of them.

One Piece length/number of chapters/lore/plots and subplots are all useless if you still can't determine what the author is writing about (fight shonen or lore/plot shonen).

I will just say that you're not wrong, at all.
But although what you say it's right, I will remind you that the screentime of fights is extremely low compared to a the majority of other battle shonens (which OP is). Maybe 90% is exagerated, but i'll say that the majority of Wano, and one piece, was spent setting up plot and lore and fight themselves, not about fighting. Maybe 75% is a more appropriate percentage, but we have like what, 130 chapters of Wano, and how many are dedicated to -fights-. And with fights I mean the one on one, not wars, see my first point.

Because as other have said, it's inconsistent at best and completely all over the place at worst.
If power level were real, Luffy would have died against crocodile, or when he faced the three admirals. Luffy is in 2 years where Kaido is at the top of his life, the most battle hardened veteran in the world. 4 volumes ago luffy is one shotted and then he fights toe-to-toe with Kaido. Same with Lucci. Pacifista are trash or super strong depending on what is needed from them. WB fleet can trash marineford in a front faced attack. Countless examples.
Power levels discussion make sense when there can be any objectivity. It's just like discussing on who is stronger between Goku and SUperman like the golden age of internet. Very non interesting topic discussed to death, which just results in shit flinging and false flagging.

Yeah but the plot happens either as a result of a fight or to set up a fight, wars are nothing but a collection of 1v1s, 2v1s or bigwigs on fodder clearance with little to no overall strategy and every problem is solved by punching it. Pretty much everything revolves around people duking it out with all manner of weapons, abilities and fighting styles.

Even the lore is used to set up fights like the Rocks lore drop that retconned the previous age of piracy just to set up Linlin and Kaido working together so they can be bludgeoned together by the Worst Gen.

On top of all that, One Piece is very much a might makes right world on the Pirate side of things (the side we see most of the time due to the protagonist's occupation) where only strong people get to have nice things. About the only two characters I can think of that are more strategy focused than other One Piece characters are Bege and Moria, both of which got shafted for their troubles in attempting to use brain over brawn.

Take out all the fights and ask yourself "Would people still follow this if there was no fisticuffs?".
