The Black sparks were a result of their clash, just like Lucci vs Zoro there were sparks at the point of impact, even though Lucci got cut there..

If you have 2 individuals picking up a brick in their hand, and they both throw a hand while holding it, they only collide with each other bricks.. The force of the bricks are going to negated and it will come down to which of them have more raw muscle power..
