None of you understand how Oda chooses to use plot armor. He sets up the story in a way so that certain characters don't get killed off.

For example Oda used plot armor to save Sanjis life by having Zoro knock him out, if that didn't happen Sanji would have died. Same way Oda set up Ivankov being in impel down. If Ivankov wasn't there, Luffy would have died.

Actually it was lowkey hinted that Sanji would have not survived. At first Sanji tried his best with Kuma but ended with an injury on his leg after he kicked Kuma head while Zoro fought Kuma for some rounds of attacks. In the end when Zoro surrenders Sanji comes back again but he is already trembling even before taking the pain, so Zoro knocks him out even because of that, Sanji was already close to his limit and the pain would have killed him for good. Then ok, this is a shounen and if demanded even Usopp could have suvived this but Oda cared to draw and show the panel\s with Sanji trembling and that hints at something.
