Speculations If there was another solid pirate manga would One Piece be popular?

The setting, pirates, imo is secondary in the end. What is important is Oda unique take on the genre, these are goofy pirates with devil fruit powers who have to travel from island to island etc. If somebody tried a generic pirate format you would end, best scenario, with something like pirates of the Carribean which is completely different from OP pirate setting. So there could even be such a manga and imo people would consider it and OP as 2 things completely different.

One piece is not popular because he is a pirate manga but because of the emotions the story conveyd.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a better pirate’s story than one piece but it does not provide as much emotions.

So the answer is no.
Pirates is one of those things that you don't get alotbof except on Halloween but its fundamental to men. Like some boys like ninjas, some like robots. Boys who like pirates are fewer but still a monumental group. I feel like I hyped up One Piece more than need partially because it was about pirates.

The emotions are good in One Piece I think your very correct on thst but it gets hyped up outside of the emotions and for some it's because pirates.

one piece is as much of a pirate story has naruto is a story about ninjas
Damn I wanted to say this!

A true pirate manga would barely have anything in common to one piece.

Oda changed Luffy oneshot goal, of being a "adventurer or free man or whatever" because pirates sound more cool
