This is considered character development.
But when Zoro wants to save a couple of handcuffed guys that's a problem because apparently the Strawhats are a terrorist group.

If that was Sanji, he would be putting himself and everyone in risk to save people who tried to kill his crewmates, Robin specifically.
Since thats Zoro, he is saving them cuz since he strives to be the strongest swordsman, he has a lot of honor, he doesn't wanna dudes to get killed like that, trust me..
Personally i think Zoro saved them cuz they are white

The whole point about it was "Nami wont ever ignore a kid's call".
Sanji: Prioritized the crew's safety in a situation where they had 0 knowledge about what was happening there more deeply, and they had other stuff to worry about as well.
Also Sanji: Literally put himself in risk more than anyone to save those kids because he trusted Nami was right, rescued the Marines (that he supposedly didn't cared about) from Vergo and from the gas, saved Tashigi too. In the same arc he did everything that he could to save Kinemon, he was the only one who heard Kinemon's reasonings.
So yeah Sanji is a very kind man, even if he seems to be dick sometimes, he is a tsundere. A person's actions are what truly matter at the end, and not merely what comes out of their mouths

-Reasonable, given he made a decision aiming for a greater good based on all the info he had at that moment. Even Luffy admitted that the pain Sanji was feeling was way higher than getting hit like that.
-Robin is a pirate in the Strawhat crew, she is already way too exposed. Sanji showed great sign of trust, even in a much weaker crewmate, and he recognized his mistake by getting caught (rare behaviour to most characters), even saying sorry. Robin thanked Sanji to death cuz someone finally accepted her as a strong and competent combatant, and not some deadweight who needs to be protected by everyone even when it's not possible.
Yeah, Sanji could've defeated Black Maria with ease so Robin wouldn't need to fight her (but she also wouldn't develop so much as she did), BM herself admitted it, but that goes against Sanji's code and values (that also comes from his most utter admiration for Zeff). Which then became another dilemma for Sanji: What version of him would be more useful for the King of the Pirates?
Obviously Sanji choose to remain as he is, he isn't changing completely who he is because it might or might not be the most useful to Luffy anyways, and he most likely thinks that Luffy would prefer him to remain as the Sanji we know. He even asked Zoro to kill him somehow, if things went out the worst for Sanji himself..
Which shows us two things:
-Sanji has absolute pride on who he is and in his values, he doesn't want to live a life where he can't be who he wants to be (Conqueror trait in fact)
-Strawhats already got indirectly benefited by Sanji's so called weakness. His kindness and the fact he doesn't hit women made Sanji and the crew indispensable allies (who were enemies previously), such as Violet and Pudding (only counting the female ones)
By the way, im not trying to slander Zoro here, just showing some people's hypocrisy
-Most likely a gag since it's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Zoro also literally asked for it, he is fine. Sanji is lowkey helping Zoro to get stronger. Another proof of their rivalry?

I definitely wouldn't call it obvious, most likely the opposite. Black Maria is also a specialist on traps (thus being a spider, an actual prehistoric giant spider), and against someone who doesn't fight back for real, gets way worse..

The fact Sanji was so in shock to what was happening might even have affected his CoO. Just go back on that chapter and see Sanji's desperate reaction for yourself. Also he recognized his mistake, if he does it again in the same way, then yeah i would say there is a problem
Also, he was trying to make Luffy reserve most of his strength for Kaido, but Jinbe also showed up to help. Leaving them to help a woman in such a situation seems pretty damn reasonable, specially for Sanji.

If it was anyone else then yeah it's not obvious but in the case of Sanji, he is supposed to sense ''women in distress''.
