Well for me its more so to do with how her character was handled by oda than Big Mom herself.
I like Big Mom in the story for the fact that she is the few females who are actually strong, and her being a yonko adds to that. I like big Mom's powers, her soul fruit gave her combination powers of Ace, enel and now jinbe with her new water homie. I like big mom's character design with her classical tricone pirate hat. Big Mom building her crew through families and political marriages and alliances is also a new take that we haven't seen from the other yonko and pirates.
The big sticking point i have with Big Mom that I think what others are also saying, is that Oda just isn't putting big mom to good use, just like all his other female characters.(robin doesn't get fights, hancock was cool, but after marineford we haven't seen her since), and then we get all the damsel in distresses like Rebecca for example. Big Mom was teased back in fishman island, she finally made her debut in the WCI arc. She first started off to be shown as a calculating smart villan, but that quickly died when craved and screamed wedding cake for the rest of her arc. I liked big mom's backstory, but it didn't make me feel sorry for her. The wedding cake and hunger pang thing I feel like was really milked to death, and ended up leaving a bad taste in my mouth overall. Like I get it was Oda's way of trying to convey a unstoppable monster, but sometimes it just fell flat, made big mom look dumb.
My impression of female yonko Big Mom: really like the idea, but definitely could be written better. The biggest issue I have with big mom now is: what is Oda's endgame for her? We know Kaido will at least go down in a epic fight and might even walk free, in comparison what can we look forward to Big Mom in Wano? *crickets
If she's just gonna be in Wano for the ride or used as a plot device to help the straw hats then I rather her not be in the Wano Arc at all. Wont be surprised if big mom dies from a concussion by slipping on a banana peel at this point. :cautious:
