General & Others Is it really the fans' fault for believing Kid=Luffy?

I feel like there's been a lot of gaslighting going around in regards to Eustass Kid

I think that up until the rooftop, arguing that Kid was on par with Luffy had some legitimacy. Zoro fans, of course, always argued otherwise because they wanted their favorite to be Luffy's only equal. Then the rooftop happened, Kid was sidelined, and all of a sudden, now I was supposedly delusional all this time for thinking Kid could be on Luffy's level.

When irl literally the entire point of Kid's character was to be Luffy's rival:
  • their interaction in sabaody
  • having a higher bounty than luffy in sabaody
  • having a supernova right hand
  • wanting to kill shanks
  • having a comparable bounty up until WCI
  • having CoC
  • their interaction in udon
If Oda didn't want Kid to be Luffy's rival, then he shouldn't have done any of the stuff I mentioned. I figured that this portrayal had to have some sort of payoff, that Oda wouldn't introduce a character like this for the fuck of it. That especially with Kid wanting to kill shanks and become pirate king, there must be some sort of confrontation between the two.

And oda blatantly failed to deliver on his promises. I don't think this is a fanboy take. Why do so many people view Kid as a disappointment, despite him 2v1ing an emperor? Why do so many people think Kid is trash despite having better feats than most other characters?

This isn't the fans fault for misinterpreting the manga, Its Oda's fault for making Kid's role in the story inconsistent with his initial portrayal.

It’s not the fans fault because there are clear parallels between Luffy and Kid, it was always a possibility that they could have been equal or Kid being slightly ahead, but not like it was a guarantee at the same time.

Yes and no. Yes, because many people really think that Oda will really put Kid on the same level as Luffy since no one evolves at the same level as the protagonist (the only one who comes closest is Zoro). Not because Oda hyped Kid in his intro and Kid also has a very powerful fruit, apart from his CoC and being a D, so at least Oda should give the character the ideal hype and work better with his attacks that are horrible.

Nah Law was around Luffy’s level for years until Gear 4.

One would think that Oda might play that game again with Kid but it didn’t happen

In fact it's the fault of Oda and the Kid fanboys.

I didn't say fan but Fanboys First of all Oda put some hype around Kid to Shabondy on his bounty etc... we all suppressed that Luffy was going to have a serious competitor but even before that Wano felt the furry as it was fake.

Even before the roof, Luffy was already stronger than Kid.

Then came the roof Oda gradually decided to put Luffy at a totally deceived level compared to everyone not only Kid but also Yamato, Law, Zoro and Marco. Oda created a fake rivalry.

Then comes some fanboys who even with the facts on their eyes want to force the rivalry and lower Luffy's level by taking abilities away from him so that he is on the same level as Kid.
Luffy is far superior on every level:
-At the level of physical statistics.
-At the level of combined mastery of Hakis and Devil Fruit.
-At the level of exploits.
-At the level of the quality of the crew.
-At the level of charisma.
-At the level of the One Piece .

I never saw him as the end game rival so I was not baited.

Like a rival for the MC who'll be PK? No one but the second strongest pirate should qualify for that ...who as we know is Blackbeard.

Kid doesn't even have vegeta lvl of rivalry plot wise or strength wise.

Once Luffy got Gear 4, he left everyone in the dust. Even in Dressrosa they were somewhat comparable, but G4 still put him on top.
