Everyone agree that he's underperformed, losing against a new antagonist is one thing but he literally was treated the same as Brook. Oda could have had him being the last standing and have clash a bit with Gunko before losing to show he's a bigger deal than the weaklings but he didn't even get that.
In last chapter we got Nami acting as the fandom mouthpiece by pointing out how Jinbe's presence wasn't of any help when it should have. (fraudwatch alert)
Is Oda actively making fun of the fandom expectations or setting up Jinbe come back?

Odas making fun of the fandom here. Jinbes whole “how do we get past such an ability” thing was a throw away line then Gunko immediately started focusing on Brook.

Brook and Robin and Usopp are more likely to redeem themselves from this than Jinbe. Jinbe may beat someone late in elbaf; but at this point it needs to be a specifically hyped character on par with Zoro and Sanjis opponents to not have Jinbe be a fraud after so many fans tried to elevate his level. If he fights someone on par with frankys and robins opponent again, it’s over.

She did nothing impressive, Oda made sure to have Jimbei say he's thinking about how to counter her hax. He's basically just saying he'd defeat her once he understands how it works.

I actually liked how He acted, it's what True Martial Artists would do, didn't Panic or Overreact or Waste his Energy ... etc
He is analyzing the situation & trying to find a Solution to her Ability,

This isn't First Time We meet a Hax Girl,
Just compare how Jinbe is acting to how Usopp was acting against Perona & Baccarat for Example,
I would call Jinbe Underperforming if he was spamming Attacks that He knows wouldn't work, not when He reacts to Situation in Mature way.

I’d say Killingham is more equivalent to Mr. 3 right now.

She had good speed blitzing Jinbe and Brook simultaneously. You don’t need strong haki or strength when you’re able to redirect your enemy into one another.

Its like a real life situation against someone with a gun. Do you give up your wallet, remain unharmed and think of a way to take them down/get them arrested or do you stupidly lunge forward and get yourself shot resulting in injury or death?

All/Most of the OG Shichibukai are highly intelligent and experienced that stick out even amongst other New World Pirates not called Yonko. Jinbei, Crocodile, Doffy, Mihawk, Boa have all shown that they think things through (most of the time unless emotions get the better of them) before acting rashly.
