Nah he is not. Kaidou probably likes testing himself, to not get bore. This seemingly is a problm with some of the Top Tiers, Mihawk included.

1. You have to assume Kaido became suicidal 20 years ago then, there's no indication during the flashback

2. He killed the old Woman for pulling that trick

Kaido's will to kill himself was legit.

He was simply disappointed to not succeed post tries.

I really don't think he was so foolish and childsh to joke around like that.
