I never made fun of Naruto for the hyperventilation, it's a completely realistic reaction to the 5 great military super-powers in the world coming together and saying "let's kill your best friend".
good for you. many, many people thought naruto was dumb, pathetic and in the wrong, though.
To be honest, I think everyone interprets that scene as Ino crying over a lost love. When even Sakura (at least in front of everyone) isn't crying and is commited to ending Sasuke.
well, i don't think ino ever loved sasuke. he was just a crush - a good-looking, studious and competent classmate who, unlike many of their peers, didn't exhibit any particularly negative character traits (bullying sakura for her forehead, picking on outcasts like naruto, body-shaming choji etc). i think she had reasons to like him - he
was likable - and she did. but a child's crush is not love and ino never seriously claimed she was mourning her 'lost love', idiot fans choose to interpret the scene in such a nonsensical way. ino has a similar character to naruto (boastful, extraverted, but kind) and her reaction is similar to naruto's, except milder because to her, sasuke was a good classmate but not her best friend
she also cares about sakura and knows her friend is very attached to sasuke, so sasuke dying would be hard on her closest friend, too (however, this isn't an angle kishimoto chose to emphasize)
I've changed my mind on certain scenes thanks to this little exchange.
that's a nice thing to say to someone. ino is a great character, but she's also a
minor character who doesn't get a lot of panel time, and due to her somewhat 'caricaturized' quirks (boasting, vanity, penchant for the quieter dark-haired gents), it's easy to only remember these moments and think she's vapid and sucks. but the truth is that ino's actions never resulted in harm to others and she always had empathy for those who had it worse than her
