Looking at the vocal toxic fanbase it has that vocally underrates the series in public space, I come to the conclusion that it is underrated and should be appreciated more.

You're free to believe that, but I fail to understand how a series can possibly be underrated when it has an unprecedented viewing :/

There's plenty of things that stop it from being a damn good manga. Over use of gags, too many characters that do little to nothing within the story but are big time characters within Arcs and very little character development and among the crew, it's a harmongenous cast for the crew, very little diversity imo on the Main cast, it may seem like so but that's just shallow imo. Not to mention that the Main cast can do no wrong in a damn pirate Manga. Marketing towards kids imo hinders the true potential that it could of had.

Obviously, it's good enough that we're on a dedicated fan site right now. But I do think the fanbase overhypes it a lot. We treat everything Oda does like it's a commandment or some shit. Take OPLA for example. It ticks literally every box for a bad Netflix adaptation, but because Oda said he likes it, everyone gobbled it up despite the poor quality. Because of that, I'm convinced One Piece fans would eat a literal dog turd if Oda told them to. Oda is a good author/artist, but I don't think we should be putting him on such a cult like pedastal.

It's all of them.
Its popularity makes it so that there will always be a chunk of the audience for each different rating. Newcomers and copium-inhalers will rate it as an unrivaled masterpiece for the ages; old fans who have grown tired of Oda's bait-and-switch with set-ups and payoffs and with his horrible pace, see the story for the bloated mess it has become; and those who jumped on the bandwagon just to shit on the current pop culture phenomenon underrate it for the sake of underrating it.
Oda deserves the popularity for all the work he poured into this bitch. But the bitch ain't been a shining prize since before the timeskip, and it's only aging worse and worse.

I don't think it's overrated around here or in other places with pretty hardcore fans, but among the general public I think it's vastly overrated.

I feel like One Piece skyrocketed in global popularity post-COVID, and newer fans who have discovered it recently think it's a hidden gem that amounts to one of the greatest fictional masterpieces of all time. Way too much praise in my opinion.

My first introduction to One Piece was the Saturday morning 4Kids dub version. I remember watching some episodes and not really enjoying it. Years later as I was searching for new series to watch on MAL I was appalled by One Piece ranking so highly (it was top 3 at the time). From my memory it was childish and goofy trash, why/how could such an anime rate so highly on an aggregate site? "Their user base much be children" I thought to myself. After watching Naruto (which I had felt the same about) at a friend's house and seeing it was better than I had thought it would I decided to give One Piece another try. I went to Fry's Electronics and purchased the 2 collections of 13-episodes (first 26 episodes) for like $60 USD. By the end of the Baratie arc I was sold on One Piece as a series. I started to collect the 26-episode Funimation box sets they were releasing for $20 USD after that, and One Piece quickly became one of my favorite series from there. Once I caught up in English, I began downloading episodes in Japanese from Pirate Bay until I was fully caught up and bagan reading the mange. One Piece introduced me to forums and the greater anime community as a whole. I came into it thinking it was highly overrated but through my time watching, reading, and engaging with others I now feel like One Piece is fairly rated and deserves all the praise that it receives.
