General & Others Is One Piece Overrated, Underrated or Fairly Rated

But the sells doesn't totally correlate to the quality of the manga. I can guarantee you that One Piece does not have the best written characters, plot, or world building in the manga format. The things that caught the people's attention is how likable people find the main characters, especially Zoro and Luffy, because of certain positive traits people like in them, and who are the main characters is static, ehich means that investing in these characters won't seem to be a waste of time on the surface, whereas a story like Dragon Ball simply throw away characters that aren't Goku and Vegeta. How Oda actually tries to build a world unlike many other shonens is another important contributor to its popularity. The fact shonen has the biggest reader base in manga, which allowed it to be able to gather a lot of mind share. It helps that unlike the likes of Naruto and Dragon Ball, the main characters outside of the MC aren't completely thrown down the drain, and even have main fights dedicated to them. There's the fact that One Piece had a massive mystery box early on in the story, which if the massive success Lost is to go buy, mystery bait is one of, if not the most effective way to gather an audience as the mysterious nature of these properties allows people to theory craft whatever comes to mind, which makes people further dedicated and loyal to the story as they feel that they're contributing to the story one way or another. Curiosity is also an extremely strong feeling as well, so a lot of interest in a story heavily dedicated to mystery bait would gather a massive following.
All of that being said, non of this actually contributes much to how well written, or contrarily so, One Piece actually is. Not saying it has no qualities, but it's not the best in anything, not even in the sum of it's parts.

Thats your personal opinion, there is no better way to determine popularity of manga than its sales. It doesn't matter what exactly is it , point is it has enough qualities overall to outsell all other mangas. If some other mangas had overall qualities that surpass one piece that it would attract even more people which would lead to better sales. But this ain't happening.

One piece pre time skip is like naruto pre timeskip, flawless masterpiece that will always be cherished.
Post timeskip has several flaws such as transformation of layered characters into one dimensional ones, powercreeping and lack of focus on main characters.
With that said, one piece is an UNIQUE story, there is nothing similar to it.
You can say whatever you want about oda, but he managed to create an one of a kind show that no one dared to copy.

It's not an opinion on what make One Piece popular. It is just so. And it takes many other factors than simply being a quality product to sell well, marketing for one, and luck in multiple places for another, and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Saying that quality alone will perform well in terms of monetary value is extremely unfounded, and frankly ignorant. Unless you wanna tell me and prove that the Iron Giant is worse than the goddamn Minions in terms of writing and animation, that alone put your claim of "quality = popularity" in the mud frankly.

You claiming one piece has worse or better something is not factual thing but something based on personal opinions . What you find better someone else would find worse so arguing about tastes is pointless. One Piece has that something that allowed it to attract so many people surpassing other mangas .
I'd argue it's anything but fairly rated

My claims of what One Piece has better or worse than are based on the standards of what writing as a concept is, and what is factually inside the story. If there are no standards or a way to measure what makes One Piece works and what doesn't, then there is no reason to have discussions about quality as they can change at an individual's whim. It'd be nothing more than "I like x", and nothing more. There's a reason why opinions that have valuable reasoning backing them up can stand up to scrutiny, while somebody trying to simply use "it's my opinion" as there only case of reasoning won't be able to handle nearly as much critique, or will simply be ignored as there's nothing substantial for the critic to work with.
That being said, you're the one that used popularity as the reason to say One Piece is fairly rated when the discussion is about the quality of the work, and how people fairly or unfairly compare it to it's literacy peers and variety of other works of fiction. Popularity in and of itself does not sufficiently answer this question as that simply means that it's liked by many people, and attributing it's success solely to the quality of the work itself is foolish as there are many factors that goes into a work's popularity outside of the quality of it in and if itself. Unless you can prove that the popularity of One Piece can only be attributed to nothing but the quality of the story, then this is a fool's errand.

There are no factual standards what makes something good or bad its just opinion based , each person has different preferences. If one piece doesnt fulfill those standards yet still manages to be more popular than mangas that fulfill those standards that alone tells us those standards are nonsense.

The popularity of something doesn't correlate to what is simply factual about that thing. We're talking about grading a product for what it is, not how high something's trending. Anyone can like something, but it's something else to articulate the why, and it's a completely different thing altogether to withhold said reasoning of liking something under scrutiny. I've seen people make up reasoning for liking a thing out of thin air, and seen such false notions spread.
