General & Others Is the world not supposed to know that Luffy is Joy Boy?

From a narrative perspective, it seems that Oda is going out of his way to prevent characters, including the straw hats from knowing that Luffy is Joy Boy

so far only Yamato, Momonosuke, CP0, Rayleigh and the Gorosei know this information.

is it that there’s a narrative importance that characters don’t know or conclude that Luffy is Joy boy?

If regular Impel Down level 6's prisoners are erased from history, imagine Joy Boy... the only places that could've some memory of him are isolated countries like Elbaf (in other words, places that can't be meddled with). The other problem is that Luffy himself probably don't know about the whole Nika thing (and isn't interested enough to learn ofc), it's just another "gear" for him.

Joy Boy's legend ("Nika, the warrior of liberation") survived by oral tradition, but only barely. However, Oda IMO really messed it up when guys like Dorry and Brogy didn't mentioned it in Little Garden, for example, although I think that the reason was that Joy Boy was created much more recently... Oda was probably still setting the directions at pre-skip and developed his story over time.

Only if they are morons at this point would they not understand that the guy stretching his body all over the place is Joyboy.

Oda having Vegapunk be vague about such things is just silly.

Straw Hats are not exactly the receptive types.
Even a braindead Kuma had more sense.
Luffy does not know it himself. And if he did he would not care. That is kind of the point of it.
Joy Boy will do his thing and not care whether or not people were waiting for him.

Luffy himself doesn't know. Remember in sabaody when Luffy almost stopped being a pirate if the journey would get spoiled? Well imagine how pissed off he'd be if he finds out he's supposed to be the reincarnation of some ancient destiny hero or whatever. He's going to fucking hate it and want to do something else.
