In only the most delusional reading can someone conclude that Shanks didn't stand a good chance here. Why would a weaker party be able to dictate every term?
Oda made it pretty clear why Sengoku declared the War over with Coby's speech. They'd had already won, and anymore fighting would lead to pointless casualties. They just finished fighting one Yonko, and going up against a second one immediately after for no reason than a dick measuring contest would have lead to even more pointless casualties.
The Marines spent two years reinforcing their ranks after fighting against Whitebeard. They probably never would have recovered if they continued that fight, whether they would have won or not.

Because Shanks can only take on 2 not 3 admirals at once, did you seriously expect him to bitchslap Kizaru and Aokiji at the same time?
He literally started attacking again next chapter. Do you know why Kizaru stopped fighting when Shanks said not to and not Koby? Because Kizaru is weaker than Shanks.

Oda simply showed to everybody's face that nobody had the guts to fight Shanks. There are also Akainu and BB, who were on a kill streak, suddenly become silent and home sick when Shanks threats the whole battlefield. The only one who saves faces is Mihawk cause he went away before Shanks made his threat (and Oda only cared to show as much). But that goes again many people believes so excuses start to run wild. Now there is also Kaido putting him on the same level as Roger/Xebec/WB but this time I have not seen many denails, that has been instead ignored. Anyway sooner or alter truth will hit like a truck the ones who still doubt.

In fact akainu stopped for a few seconds like kizaru, does that mean he agreed? No. He tries to kill koby lol
