Is Wano one of the worst One Piece arcs?

I returned after dropping in Fishman Island about a decade ago.

This has been one of the most disappointing arcs I have seen in decades. I feel like I am at the later half of LOTGH. Oda has this issue of too many bland characters taking up screen time. It sad to see One Piece get praised for the same things that people soured on FairyTail for. Luffy went from getting one shotted to fighting Kaido in base form in days! The fake tension comment is utterly right.

I found this forum because I thought I was in the wrong for being against this arc. On reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/qm7els expressed the same issues and got mass thumbed down.

When did the community become rabbit? I remember people had no problem calling out stuff about the story. Now All I see on youtube is people talking about One Piece and "Goda" like its the best coke ever.

Allow me to act like a child for a bit longer, and say that the community is too busy making theories and sucking off Oda/ Gold d and Joy Boy era to look up and see the trash.
Kaido raped luffy ; doffy/kata even BM didn't:kobeha::denzimote:

They are so protective it almost looks like they are going to lose their jobs if they don't do that. :myman:

It's quite easy to explain psychologically:

Back in the day when OP was indeed great (Water7, Sabaody etc.) people didn't need to write about "Goda" or how great OP was - everyone knew it.

Nowadays nearly everyone knows that the writing has been on a steady decline. Even the homers know it deep down, but they want to keep the image of a "best shonen OP" up in order not to experience cognitive dissonance. They're way too invested in it.

That's why they come up with that aggressive defending, the "Goda" articles etc.

Dude you made a perfect analysis of Wano Arc, more directly to Kaido. And also One Piece community, more directly about Reddit and YT content creators.

Welcome to Worst Gen. Here we have freedom of speech and some of us are not Oda/Luffytards.

Since when are internet downvotes a violation of freedom of speech?

The subreddit definitely has a different target audience, it's not as filled with seething fans and powerscalers (that's a good thing fuck the powerscalers), but they definitely seem to brush off any questionable writing decision by Oda or actively try to justify it even if it's plain shit. Ideally I'd love some kind of balance between these two. But oh well.

this is the same old crap we always get.
Skypiea was hated weekly
Enies Lobby was hated weekly
Thrill Bark was hated weekly
Dressrosa was hated weekly
Whole Cake was hated weekly.

people had 300-900 chapters to binge depending when they got caught up and they recieved instant satisfaction, so now that they're stuck wiating months or years for resolution the arcs always "suck"

it's been like this for 15 years. Wano is nowhere near one of the worst arcs in the series, thats ridiculous. once it finished and we move on a year into the enxt story just like all the previous arcs people will binge read it and realie it was not nearly as bad as they thought.

pattern hasnt changed for a decade and i suppose it never will till the series ends.

Was any arc not hated? Just curious

Riddle me this, riddle me that: What would change from Wano then it is binge-read after it's over? Like, all of a sudden, every single criticism pointed out on the post by @TooOldForThisSmite is gonna disappear if Wano is binge-read? Just admit it: With the exception of very few aspects of the arc, Wano largely IS a piece of shit writing, weekly or otherwise. :kayneshrug:

Downvoting on reddits implies in restrictions of comments and stuff like that.

And my experience about reddit was literally getting banned from One Piece room for showing those similar opinions of him.

Only arc i can remember not being hated on are Water 7 and Marineford.
Everyone loves Sabaody nowadays, but at the beginning with the duval stuff people hated it
Enies Lobby was the same problem as Dressrosa, Whole Cake and now Wano, i think it was simply arc fatigue, a lot of people look at water 7 and enies lobby as the same arc so it was just the usual stuff we get now, difference being oda was giving us 43-45 chapters a year back then instead of 36 like now.

A harsh, critical look at Wano that doesn't resort to calling people fanboys, trashing the author or just throwing plain vitriol?
I never thought i'd see the day :crazwhat:
Btw what's LOTGH?

Whole Cake was hated weekly.
This was not hated weekly....it became trash, especially after the tea party.....damn when I think about it after time-skip whenever Luffy is involved the thing becomes trash....because story adjusts to him.

Also even if people hated reading something like say skypeia weekly... its a good arc. Not the case with wano.

This is a major problem with post-TS that remains largely unaddressed, imo: Luffy is detrimental to it because, as you said, plot adjusts to him instead of the other way around. Luffy got the most panel time in every New World arc bar Reverie (IIRC), but:

The best thing about PH is Law.
The best thing about Dressrosa is Doffy.
The best thing about Zou is info dump.
The best thing about WCI is Katakuri.
The best thing about Reverie is lore dump.
The best thing about Wano is Zoro.

It is to the point where Luffy is now more detrimental to the story than not, tbh. :pepemy:

Luffy's involement in an arc should be made as personal as possible, like in the Summit War saga, because his days as an involved bystander are over. I hope this means his storylines against Teach and Akainu deliver.

That's actually not true.

When Oda's writing is actually on point - which it hasn't been for much since the timeskip - the weekly discussions are full of positive vibes and hyping each other up.

Trust me, I'm also an oldtimer. I remember that:

- Sabaody was beloved
- Impel Down was hype
- Marineford was hype
- first part of Dressrosa (until the Birdcage) was well received
- Zou was beloved
- first half of WCI (up until the end of the teaparty) was really well received
- Reverie was just insane hype

There was very little complaining during those parts of the story, because it was simply great to read week for week.

The instances where the overall vibes are getting really negative perfectly correlate with the actual parts of the story, where the writing declines rapidly (bad pacing, questionable plot-decisions etc.):

- Fishman Island (uninteresting villains, questionable pacing)
- second half of Dressrosa (horrible, horrible pacing)
- second half of WCI (horrible pacing again and some really idiotic writing decisions - PIS and plot armor en masse)
- during various parts of Wano, especially the second act (pacing) and the current raid (writing decisions)
