A blind scrawny Human child vs. The pinnacle of Evolution.

VS.

This raid also has to be won tactically.

Tama's Kibi Dango's say fuck all that.
Meruem and Komugi's relationship is more endearing and sad than every single OP flashback put together.

I don't like judging an arc until it's complete and I've reread the entirety of it at once. I've done this with every arc post timeskip in order to get a better feel for Oda's intentions for the arc, and how his execution went. So far though I'm pretty disappointed in Wano. There's way too many characters for Oda to juggle through, and he puts what limited panel space he does have on minor characters that sometimes barely advances the overall plot. The raid overall has just been an unmitigated mess of Oda not knowing what he wants to do. He'll start up a potential matchup fight, but then completely disregard it a chapter or two later where the characters are no longer fighting. Luffy's progression also felt a little on the nose, I can buy the Udon training giving him Advanced CoA, even though the prison training itself makes no sense. But Advanced CoC just popping up from getting whacked by Kaido? Nah, I'm not buying it.

I'm also disappointed in the lack of worldbuilding surrounding Wano overall. Wano has 5 regions, what's different about them? How do they relate to each other? How do the daimyo in each region interact? Also this is the land of Samurai, and I haven't seen a single one that holds a candle to Ryuma, or even shows a lick of skilled swordsmanship. Freaking Akainu was afraid to put it under World Government jurisdiction because of the Samurai there.... From what I've seen so far a few vice admirals can probably take the island. I know the attention is on Kaido and what he's done to Wano, but learning more about Wano itself and it's inhabitants would get me to care a lot more about their struggles, and the red scabbards.

So yeah, I'm waiting until the arc is complete, but so far I'm rating Wano like a 4/10.

That should be something to go off by in every manga but when something is so fucking shit. Even you rate it 4/10 for now.

Oda can't make up for such a shitty arc with few good chapters at the end.

This arc is too big for few chapters to change the opinion about the arc.

I will be genuinely shocked if you jump from 4/10 to 8/10 by the end of Wano if I have to be honest especially after how long Wano is currently.

The thing that's most telling about this entire arc is that I and most other fans feel ZERO tension.

Literally no threat at all.

Nobody is sitting there, anxiously waiting for the next chapter and being really pumped or even in fear, what will happen next.

Everyone is just taking it like

"Oh well, hopefully next chapter will be good. Let's just skip to the part where we see how everyone wins their matchup."

instead of

"OMFG, can't wait for next chapter!!! Oh man, I'm really worried about our heros, they're really in a bad situation right there! I hope nobody bites the dust!"

how it should be.

Heck, even when Luffy fell into the ocean or Kinemon got stabbed, literally everyone was like: "Well, so what? They'll come back anyway."

That's actually a nail in the coffin for the climax of an arc.
I wish this raid could've resemble one of Kingdom's amazing wars!, unfortunately, Oda doesn't have the courage to make his main cast suffer and feel the overwhelming "threat " of a Yonko. Wano could have been amazing, Oda had the tools and proper characters to make one of the best arcs post - skip.... Instead, he made Wano totally subpar in terms of development and interesting characters.... Even Kaido is underwhelming, the one that had one of the most amazing intros ever.

-Fake tension all over the place

-Offscreening literally all the Straw Hat’s fights in favor of Tama and Big Meme clownery

-Kinemon dying like three times this arc

-Shoving every power up down Luffy’s throat

-Worst Pacing issues in all of One Piece

-Having Sanji disappear for like 20 chapters having accomplished nothing

-Kaido being one of the most boring villains in the series

So now that I pointed out all these issues, do you all agree that Wano is one of the worst arcs?
Laughs in Long Ring Island arc :milaugh:

Hey, at least Aokiji was around to spice things up..... Unless you were anime only in which case that arc was legitimately worse than some Pre-TS filler arcs.
Thankfully, I'm not anime only. :gokulaugh:

That arc is one big WTF for me. They could have just met Aokiji right away after meeting Tonjit and the storyline would suffer literally nothing. It's the only "prelude arc before a big arc" where the content is utterly meaningless. Luffy very nearly getting defeated by Foxy, regardless of home field of advantage, after one-shotting Bellamy and beating Crocodile & Enel was stupid as fuck.

Agree wano so bad look to fights even we did not see how jack went down!!! queen went down by 2 hits!! zoro using king haki for first time as he knew it from ages vs king!!!,queen and king did not use haki at all!!!! they does not even have power up their devil fruit!!,jack not even have hybrid type for fight!!! big mom what she doing!!!, at the start of arc we saw luffy went down by 1 hit from kaido with gear 4, kaido hit this hit for zoro and law and they stay stand!! even with hybrid type! you joke with me!!!, now kaido (hybrid type) vs normal luffy(not use any gear) and their fight look equal how!!!!, even most of tobi roppo don't know what haki is!!,about sumri they talk about death death death ..... and look to kinmon how he still alive man its about 2 arcs ago law cut him and he did not notice!!!!, kanjoro died 3 times as well, for fights so bad just compare luffy vs katakuri, vs this shit that happen here, also about that medicine that gave to zoro restore to him full energy full power!!! its stronger than devil fruits!!. this arc we have 2 yonko here but iam seeing big mom fight worse than dofi!!! lol for me wano fights is worse fight i ever see in one piece except kaido vs all in the top that was real power of yonko that we want to see, but then luffy went down then went up and have same power of hyprid kaido when he is not using any gear!!! for me its so bad really so bad

well, after reading chapter 1036. I really considering to just stop reading one piece. it's just getting worse day by day. It's really sad tho.

No it's not.
One piece was always like that.
The only thing that changes is oda adding too many characters and with that we have more chapters that many fans don't enjoy, add and the breaks and Sometimes feels too long with no real reason.
Fake tension is a phrase that can be used in almost every manga not just one piece.
Even in the manga that actually killing people i haven't read something that i didn't expect it so for me its one and the same.
And for me wano is one of the best arc. Characters like zoro and sanji just stepped in to the next level.
This is the time that we can actually visualise how they're going to be at Eos.
The first real change was way back, at enies lobby and in wano was the next imo.
Plus i am a zoro fan and he did have amazing feats plus we will learn more about his lineage so yeah for me, wano is one of the best arc.

The arc should have focused on Zoro's training, Nico Robin's significance to the overarching story given the history on Wano and the CPO, Kidd's backstory and character development, Kaido and his goals/character/backstory/wanting to die, poneglyphs, and bad-ass samurais with cool designs. The samurai who Yamato was jailed with in her backstory all had cool designs and they only get 2 panels. Why? Because we need more panels of Momonosuke crying? Have we seen ANY cool present-day samurai in Wano yet? I don't think there's been one in a land that's supposedly known for its elite swordsmen. Its fake hype.

Instead much of it has been focused on shitty SMILE designs, shitty Scabbards, lazy Udon "Me gonna break this rock" training, Oden wanking, Otama, asspulling Luffy feats, and Big Meme. We're too deep into OP for that. Focus on the real shit. The story should be far more potent at this point. And then on top of that Kinemon and Kiku are both alive? Let me guess Ashura is alive too huh? Garbage.

Imagine extending the fight between Fukurokuju and whatever that shitty Ninja's name is over prolonging Zoro vs King or Queen vs Sanji. The raid has had plenty of cool action but much of what we should have seen has been shortened because Oda wastes too many panels on useless characters and fodder characters panicking over shit that the reader already knows. I guarantee you we get another 10-15 panels of the Flower Capital and Onigashima fodder panicking for an island that's never going to explode. Now it's like Oda is rushing through shit because he realizes how long the arc has already gone. Now we have to watch Luffy asspull his way to defeating Kaido after beating Katakuri by luck and circumstance and having to use G4 to fight Ulti. It's not good storytelling. There's no reason the Scabbards should be getting more character development than the Straw Hats in an arc that is supposed to be the biggest in OP. Wano is not the worst arc in OP by a long shot but it's certainly been disappointing on multiple levels and the power scaling has been laughable.

The arc is a 6/10 for me so far and that's only because of the rooftop battle, Zoro vs King, Sanji vs Queen, and Nico Robin vs Black Maria. Everything else has been underwhelming and the right stories with the right characters are not being told.

I returned after dropping in Fishman Island about a decade ago.

This has been one of the most disappointing arcs I have seen in decades. I feel like I am at the later half of LOTGH. Oda has this issue of too many bland characters taking up screen time. It sad to see One Piece get praised for the same things that people soured on FairyTail for. Luffy went from getting one shotted to fighting Kaido in base form in days! The fake tension comment is utterly right.

I found this forum because I thought I was in the wrong for being against this arc. On reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/qm7els expressed the same issues and got mass thumbed down.

When did the community become rabbit? I remember people had no problem calling out stuff about the story. Now All I see on youtube is people talking about One Piece and "Goda" like its the best coke ever.

Allow me to act like a child for a bit longer, and say that the community is too busy making theories and sucking off Oda/ Gold d and Joy Boy era to look up and see the trash.
