Questions & Mysteries Is Wano's raid worse than WCI's "wedding cake" so far?

Is it?

Probably the one saving grace in this whole thing is the death of some of the Scarrabs, like Kinemon, Kiku and Ashura.
Whoops! Rest of your post was spot on but this aged like milk!

Raid is the worst by far. There is ZERO tension and nobody dies against one of the most powerful pirate crews in the world, not even tertiary characters! I was never one of those people who complained about Oda never killing anybody, but for fucks sake it's just ridiculous in this instance.

The reason I think it's worse in general, is because this event, this clash against Kaido, has been built up for so long......for hundreds of chapters...multiple arcs....and it just feels like a poor's man Ennies Lobby.
So, because the hype was higher, the disappointment is as well.

I had hoped that Oda would have them stay dead, but last chapter Oda just killed what little hope i had in that. :josad:

Absolutely. Too many pointless characters, too many fake outs, no real tension, useless plot devices, and horrible pacing.

Also Tama is the single most deus ex machina character ever written to help "turn" the tides of battle. Almost ruins the whole arc if it were not for Yamato and Ulti. Does Oda think having more BP fodder on your side is somehow better than portraying samurai to be an exceptional group of fighters like they were feared to be? :kobeha:

Mmmm the only thing I can see wrong in wano is Tama's power, I mean, she just had the counter to beast pirates and lived in wano like nothing.

But Luffy is just a lucky bastard in the world of one piece, that is all.

I stand by my point. Wedding Cake and Onigashima's Raid are good ideas on paper with the latter being the most ambitious, but Oda's writing is significantly sloppier in Wano than it was in WCI.

Wedding cake was good till some time then went to be ass.

Raid at least have some changes is also ass tbh but at least more enjoyable.

Tho I felt that the good guys were indeed in grave danger in WCI than in Wano.

I will never get bored of Wano hate threads.

Can't believe I didn't comment on this thread but yes if we are measuring "threat" then there is no denying WCI wedding cake had more of it, regardless of how awful it was. The raid in Wano has been one of the easiest hurtles the straw hats have ever faced.

I sometimes wonder if this fandom realises that it does the exact same shit every arc

Back in WCI the BMP were called every name in the book, had dozens of threads about being "Incompetent", people were complaining that not every single minister was M3 level for some reason(granted that was the perception of Yonko crews at the time, see Squardo=Doflamingo wank at the time), people were even wondering how did they even become a Yonko crew

Nowadays people jerk off about how "Competent" the BMP were even though that wasn't the perception during the arc itself

It's hard to take the Fandom seriously when they have been doing this shit since fucking Enies Lobby. Every single arc is the "Worst ever"
It's just the curse of reading weekly
can't imagine fucking reading foxy pirates weekly
this overanalyzing, forum posting, spoiler checking weekly reading is horrible
it's best to let an arc finish or wait weeks, not this
but I can't stop, not until wano's finished
I don't remember suffering so much in the cake arc in the anime, nor did I not care about the incompetent crew (which felt normal one piece to me)
we see this in mini scale with the weekly chapters, with everyone hating on the spoilers, then liking when the chapter is actually out (wow G5 is actually cool, actually raizo had a nice speech, wait luffy isn't actually joy boy? etc etc

The Wedding Cake bullshit was the first time I said to myself "what the fuck am I reading?" That was the beginning of the end for One Piece. So while Wano definitely isn't that bad, I don't think it's fully recovered from that shit-level of writing.

I think the Yonkos ruined the manga tbh. All because Oda thinks any shit writing is justified due to Yonko status. A character running around screaming for cake? Of course, it's a Yonko. It's all good. Although to be fair, we saw glimpses of this with Doflamingo/Dressrosa, but then he still added some interesting shit like Sabo being alive, introducing an Admiral, etc...

The problem is Oda respects some characters too much, so they "need" a long time to be defeated, and in that time any stupidity is justified. He set a precedence with Doffy, and Yonkos had to top it. If Dressrosa dragged out, how can the Yonkos not drag out just as much, if not more?
