A character getting relentlessly beaten up without achieving anything does not make them a threat, it makes them… a punching bag.
I do not care about a Vivre Card saying how durable the guy is, I care about his actual effect on the plot. Where he, like most of the Big Mom Pirates, was just a sad, overlong joke in the last third, while the arc stretched well past it’s sell by date.
Which is why I said “apart from Katakuri and Perospero”
Lol, he absolutely did not. What Oven nearly did was ruin the cake and damage the ship. In a fight he’d have been destroyed.
And the fact that Pound stopped him only added to Oven’s inepititude, because Oven failed to knock out Pound with an earlier attack
Like I said earlier, Katakuri and Perospero were the only ones I gave credit to
Su Long Daifuku humiliated Daifuku without even fighting him. He looked like a complete incompetent chasing after her, he ended up destroying a load of his ships trying to catch an inexperienced 15 year old girl.
I’m agreeing with Perospero here on Daifuku
Yes, but Germa were there. And, once again, the Big Mom Pirates were made to look a group of clowns as for the umpteenth time they were quickly thwarted by a group of five people. Technically four, Judge wasn’t on Cacoa Island
The handsdown worst cliffhanger of the arc, maybe the worst in the series.
No, I’m pretty much right. The BM Pirates were routinely mocked as incompetent morons (Katakuri and Perospero aside) during WCI.
The problem was they kept getting into postions where they should have been threatening, but that threat was resolved so quickly and without any real pain from the heroes that at the end of the day they just looked hopeless. Look at Luffy and Pekoms jumping out the mirror- the Big Mom Pirates looked threatening for a grand total of half a chapter, but by the end of that very chapter Germa had shown up and it was obvious they were then going to show up the Big Mom Pirates in the next one. Which they did.
And things like this kept happening again and again, for what was about a year in real time. Mostly, it has to be said, from Big Mom, who considering her strength, came off as Queen incompetent with her never ending cycle of slapstick disasters.
Ah, we seem to have very different impressions of who comes off as a threat if you’re naming Ulti.
Ulti’s main time as a threat happened off-screen, where she beat Nami. On-screen, she really just got beaten up a lot. Sure, she got back up again, but by the time where Nami knocked her off her feet and said she needed stronger lightning to beat her I was pretty much done with Ulti and just ready for her to be beaten. Because all Ulti was doing since she ran into Luffy was being locked in a cycle of look threatening -> get hit -> go down -> get back up again
That’s just tiresome to me. Give me an actual fight, resolved in two chapters, any day over a stretched out non-fight against the second tier of subordinates.

Wano is not as bad as folks on Worstgen make it out to be. Only part of the fanbase that seems to be complaining a lot.
The arc is just a chore a bit to follow weekly. But I imagine the same would have been said for Skypiea etc. Except to be fair, Wano had years of development. The hype isn't necessarily matching to the expectations Oda set, but I imagine when things really heat up, it'll get interesting. Payoff is just taking too long for weekly reading.

While Wano has its great moments here and there, it doesn't feel like a Marineford and Water7/Ennies Lobby at all.
There is no real struggle. There is no proper emotional investment. False tension. Tobi Roppo defeated just so. The Beasts Pirates look less threatening than any other NW villains.
And people get annoyed because people want to see the raid failling? Many peoples issues with this arc could get eliminated, IF Oda creates this fake tension intentionally.

Honestly, I've reread the arc and I've found that on a straight through read, the raid isn't bad at all. It's just extremely long. Since 975, that nearly 50 chapters of constant pursuit to take down Kaido.
Not only that, but we probably have like anywhere from 20-40 more chapters of this raid considering who is still remaining. I'd say the most intense parts of it haven't even occurred yet. The 3 calamities are still up. As are the 2 Yonko. 4 of the Worst Gen are still fighting each other. Things still look pretty good in terms of where we are at.
People expecting death pretty much have the wrong expectations for this series, and thats too bad. The F6 being actually down is a shame, but even Jack mentioned that they are weaker than the Scabbards in Chapter 1005, defeated by Kaido or not (could just be an insult but makes you think now)

I see the points about the Big Mom Pirates being buffoons in their own arc, but I stand by my point that Wano's Raid was a bigger writing blunder than WCI's "Wedding Cake!" For all the faults of the Big Mom Pirates had, nothing will ever top the Beast Pirates turning good at the whims of a little girl.
Well I can't comment about writing, there are many flaws in both arc tbh.,but in Wano raid the only chapter which I felt bored was 1016, and the only side plot I was angry is Otama. Some other plots were meaningless and useless. But it has been fun ride because I learnt to keep my headcanons away.
