He's not overrated. In terms of actual writing, I think he's the best in the series. People just seem to have preconcieved notions about how things should be, and when things don't end up that way, somehow it automatically = not good
Rather than taking the time to try and understand why the author made the choices they did, and how they align with other precedents in the series.
It's this exact mentality that Gege pushes back on so much, and why we see JJK subvert so many typical shonen tropes.
Death has never been ceremonious in JJK.
Things have almost always moved at breakneck speed.
This is not new.

And the actual afterlife vision is great character work for both Gojo and Sukuna
