I am curious if the decline of JJK has more to do with Gege taking a stand against his "superiors" at Jump.. If they have been "interfering" with his work, trying to steer its direction or given Gege ultimatums, limiting his creative freedom. Given Gege's abstract storytelling, and heavy themes, it pushes the boundary of what's "Shounen".
Manga Youtubers for the next 2 weeks will be glazing this ending until several months down the lane when it hits them that most people don't like this ending. This is indeed worse than the AOT ending, which I actually like (both anime and manga). Some series may end up having controversial endings but this one I feel like was just straight up like "Oh wow he beat Sukuna". And then everyone resumes their lives.
The Monday Night game review of the Sukuna fight is truly one of the most lame chapters of all time. Just show me Sukuna being absorbed by Yuji and their interaction or something. Give me the boys actually mourning their sensei. Give me Yuji mourning Choso. It was like this when Sukuna cut Gojo in half off-screen, just show me the impact panel man. Or when Kenjaku got black hole'd by Yuki and came out with minor scrapes. Like what happened? Don't tell me after. Does Gege and or his writing team genuinely believe this is the best time to give us New Shadow Style lore? These hard cuts HAVE TO STOP.
This manga is so short and yet there is plenty to cut out. Things like Megumi's sister fighting Sukuna, anything with Kashimo, the sumo guy, Maki vs. Cursed Human Womb Metapod, Yaga's death, and plenty more, can just be removed from the story without losing much impact. Like they were kinda cool, but they were mid and also useless to the end of the story anyway. The big one is the merger. Where is Kenjaku/Tengen and the merger? Are the next 3 chapters gonna be 50 pages long and end with an even bigger gauntlet against a giant Cursed Spirit? So many fan theories ending up being narratively better than what was actually given to us. There was a glimmer of hope when Yuji used his Domain Expansion, but I still have no idea what it does or even its relevancy at this late in the game anymore. The manga youtubers gonna be milking this shit but in 10 years from now people will dog on this manga's ending same way as Naruto and MHA.
TLDR; 6/10 Manga. Choso and Todo are worth 1 point each.
